However, there are also some predecessors who have died at the hands of their own people, and the harm and impact caused by these "inner ghosts" are often more tragic, which is really infuriating.
The Southern Anhui Incident was a surprise attack launched by the Kuomintang, and the CPC Central Committee made a judgment in a timely manner and put forward a strategic guideline at a critical juncture: We must resolutely not make concessions to southern Anhui. At the same time, the New Fourth Army and the Eighth Route Army south of the Yellow River were required to rush north of the Yellow River as soon as possible. However, Old Jiang immediately issued an order asking Gu Zhutong and Shangguan Yunxiang to go and annihilate our army.
On January 8, 1941, Shangguan Yunxiang issued an order to the troops to completely annihilate our army by noon on the 9th. After learning of the intelligence, the New Fourth Army quickly made a judgment and decided to immediately set out to the north and prepare for the northward crossing. The team was divided into three columns, one of which continued to be contained at Pangsan, one of which held on to Gaoling, and the other of which moved north rapidly as an avant-garde force.
But the vanguard soon encountered the enemy, and after a night of bloody fighting, they finally succeeded in holding their positions and seizing the high ground. However, at this time, the road forward became more difficult, because the main force of the enemy army was heavily encircled in Maolin, and the original route was difficult to continue to complete. Surrounded by enemies, the situation was critical.
Xiang Ying and others braved the rain to study the battle situation, at this time the two sides were fighting, the gunfire was continuous, what should they do? At this time, Ye Chao, the operational staff officer, suggested that the commanders of the army study it together.
Ye Ying set out to find General Ye Ting, who was roasting the fire, to report on the situation, but Ye Ting said that there was no good study, and the only way was to continue fighting, and he resolutely did not agree to return the same way. So Ye Chao returned to look for Xiang Ying but did not find it, and could only go back to report to Ye Ting again.
It turned out that Xiang Ying had not waited for Ye to come over, and he chose to burn the carry-on documents and persuade Yuan Guoping, Zhou Zikun, Li Yihao and others around him to find a way to break out.
They turned around and hid in the southern mountainous area of Jing County, from screw pit to Liankeng and then to Chikeng Mountain, gradually gathering more than thirty to seventy scattered personnel of the New Fourth Army, establishing a temporary general branch of the party, and also making contact with local party organizations. Painfully and bitterly, Xiang Ying felt guilty about the heavy losses of the New Fourth Army and said that he would review it with the central authorities after breaking out.
But no one expected that they would encounter an accident when they were temporarily hidden in Chikeng Mountain to find an opportunity to break through. It turned out that Xiang Ying slept in a small cave where only four people could sleep at night, located on a cliff near the top of the mountain, surrounded by three stone walls, and the terrain was dangerous. In addition to him, Zhou Zikun, Huang Cheng (Zhou Zikun's guard), and Liu Houzong (adjutant) lived here.
It's a great place to hide from the enemy, but who would have thought there would be an infidelity. In the early morning of March 14, several gunshots suddenly rang out, and Liu Houzong took advantage of the fact that Xiang Ying, Zhou Zikun, and Huang Cheng were asleep, and shot at them, Xiang Ying and Zhou Zikun were killed, and Huang Cheng was seriously injured.
Why did this Liu Houzong do this? It turned out that he coveted wealth and was bent on surrendering to the enemy, so he took advantage of the night to brutally kill important leaders. He then sneaked down the hill and surrendered, but the Kuomintang did not believe what he said and immediately locked him up for interrogation, and was not released until 1948. After that, he returned to his hometown and stole his life, and was eventually arrested by the public security bureau.
In August 1952, Liu Houzong, the biggest traitor in the "Anhui Incident", was executed in Nanchang, Jiangxi, and he finally got his due fate. However, the New Fourth Army suffered heavy losses, and its commander Ye Ting was also detained during negotiations with the Kuomintang.
At a time of national crisis, when the people are living in deep trouble, some opportunists are falling on their knees in front of the enemy and wagging their tails and begging for mercy. But "evil has evil retribution", the losses they have brought are enormous, and the final outcome is bound to be miserable.
