On March 13, Xiang Ying and deputy chief of staff Zhou Zikun and five other people were hidden in the Bee Cave of Chikeng Mountain in Jing County, because the cave was narrow and there could not be more than 5 people, Xiang Ying let his personal guard Xia Dongqing live under the large stone wall outside the cave. Xiang Ying, Zhou Zikun, the guards Huang Cheng, and the military aide-de-camp Liu Houzong lived in the cave. In the early morning of March 14, Liu Houzong took advantage of the fact that Xia Holly had not returned from the mountain, and while Xiang Ying, Zhou Zikun, and Huang Cheng were asleep, he suddenly poisoned his hands and shot and killed Xiang Ying and Zhou Zikun, and Huang Cheng was shot three times (seriously injured but not dead). The sentries took Liu Houzong back to the compound of the party headquarters in Jing County, where the enemy county magistrate personally interrogated him, and Liu Houzong truthfully confessed about the killing of Xiang Ying and others. After the enemy county magistrate listened, he hurriedly telegraphed shangguan Yunxiang, the local garrison commander, and shangguan hurriedly asked Gu Zhutong for instructions, and Gu called back: Send troops up the mountain to inspect.
