outburst! Typhoon in the Philippines, solar power plant shutdown!

A few days ago, Mantianxin released the news of flooding in Malaysia, semiconductor manufacturers stopping production, and port interruption.

At that time, The Crystal Oscillator Corporation issued an announcement that two of its factories in Malaysia were flooded and shut down, and it would take some time to restart production.

Another Dutch supplier of semiconductor packaging equipment, BE Semiconductor, said the assembly shop for its chip mount systems was flooded and the final assembly of about 60 chip mount systems worth about 25 million euros was temporarily suspended.

In addition to the floods in Malaysia, the Philippines, another major semiconductor producer, was also affected by typhoons recently.

outburst! Typhoon in the Philippines, solar power plant shutdown!

On December 24, local time, the Philippine National Disaster Reduction Commission issued a notice saying that Typhoon Rey has caused 3.38 million people in the country to be affected, and the economic loss is as high as 6 billion Philippine pesos, about 760 million yuan.

The Philippine Disaster Reduction Commission report showed that Typhoon Rey killed at least 326 people in the country, 58 people were missing and 661 others were injured. More than 620,000 people were relocated. At present, the electricity supply in 124 towns has not been restored, the network in 257 towns is also in a state of disruption, and 4 towns have difficulty supplying water. A total of 340,000 houses nationwide were damaged to varying degrees, and a total of 161 infrastructure such as roads and hospitals were damaged.

As one of the main production bases of passive components (especially MLCC) in the world, the Philippines has set up factories in the Philippines of the top three MLCC manufacturers, Murata, Samsung Electric and Sun Dielectric.

In addition to MLCC, there are a number of packaging and testing manufacturers on Luzon Island in the Philippines, such as Amcor, Nexperia, Intel, Texas Instruments, etc., all of which have built semiconductor factories on Luzon Island.

Among them, the Japanese MLCC factory Solar Power was shut down.

outburst! Typhoon in the Philippines, solar power plant shutdown!

Solar power sent a press release on the 22nd that typhoon "Rey" hit the Philippine Islands on the 22nd, resulting in the shutdown of the Philippine subsidiary Taiyo Yuden (Philippines).Inc.

Solar Power said that the Philippine plant and production equipment have been slightly damaged, the factory has stopped operating, and is currently moving in the direction of restarting production, while also confirming the recovery of infrastructure such as electricity and logistics.

At the same time, the solar power also said that if there is a new progress, it will immediately release information to the outside world. Unfortunately, as of press time, there is still no new news update on the official website of Sun Temptation, and it seems that the factory restart is still in progress.

It is understood that the sun power is the world's fourth largest MLCC supplier, the market share of about 13%, in the mobile phone high capacity MLCC, automotive MLCC and other high gross margin products have advantages, high capacity specifications in the automotive, 5G demand driven by the needs, has been the tightest supply and demand specifications.

In the second quarter of this year, the news reported that Sun Dielectric had completely stopped receiving new orders for consumer capacitor parts, and notified customers that the delivery time of all series of orders under the customer was extended, and said that it could not guarantee that new orders could be delivered on time. At that time, along with Samsung, Murata, and Guoju, there was indeed a wave of market.

However, after the second half of the year, the market tended to be calm, and even the leading factory Murata said that the second half of the year was not good. However, major manufacturers are still optimistic about the demand in the next three years, and are actively taking action to expand production capacity.

On November 30, Sun Temptation issued a press release saying that due to the electrification of automobiles and the popularity of 5G smartphones, the demand for MLCC will be popular in the future, so it will build a new MLCC plant in its subsidiary Sun Temptation (Changzhou) Electronics Co., Ltd. to increase mlcc production, and the new plant is expected to start production in 2023.

Earlier in September, Sun Power announced that it would invest about 18 billion yen to build a new MLCC plant in its subsidiary in Sarawak, Malaysia, which is expected to be completed in March 2023, due to its optimistic that MLCC demand will continue to expand in the future.
