An anonymous shopper bought dozens of Star Wars toys for 99p at a cheap supermarket and is expected to sell for £15,000 at next Monday's auction, the Mirror reported on December 23.
About 40 years ago, the anonymous collector bought toys from Tesco at a low price, which was discounted by 50% on the original price and sealed in cardboard boxes. Each plastic figure in the Star Wars films is said to have appreciated dramatically and is now worth between £150 and £900. Among his collections is the rare "Yak-Face" statue from Return of the Jedi, worth £900. A statue of Lu Skywalker dressed as the Imperial Stormtrooper from Star Wars is still labeled with the "Tesco 99p" price tag, worth £400. A carbonized frozen Hansolo toy was estimated at £300 at auction.
Glen Chapman of C&T Auctions said: "Antique toys from the 1980s are currently worth a lot. Not just Star Wars, but many toys from the 1980s are becoming increasingly collectible today. A new generation of buyers now has more disposable income, and they bid on items that remind them of their childhood. (Compiled and reported by China Youth Network)
