Changde farmer Huang Shaozhong, born in 1942 in Yongshun County, West Hunan Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, on the banks of the Youshui River, in his youth on the Yuan River punted boats to pull fibers to make a living, after starting a family settled in Taoyuan County, Yiwangxi Town, Taoyuan County, on the Yuan River, Huang Shaozhong's whole life, all his life, marked by the Yuan River. The landscape painting "Yuanjiang San'an Nine Caves and Eighteen Beaches" is his life imprint and life traces related to the Yuanjiang River.

Opening the 9-volume, 110-meter-long "Yuanjiang Sanyuan Nine Caves and Eighteen Beaches" is to open the scenery of the Yuanjiang River for nearly 500 miles from the Wushui River in Luxi, Xiangxi to sujiadu in Changde Mountain, and open up the decades of wandering life of Huang Shaozhong on both sides of the Yuanjiang River.

In 1955, he studied in Waejiang
The largest tributary of the Yuanjiang River, Youshui, flows through Huang Shaozhong's hometown of Yongshun Zhenxi.
In June 1955, Huang Shaozhong, a graduate of primary school, and his classmates Huang Quanning, Li Shengtai, Liu Yunhong, Tian Yansheng and Zhang Yegui formed a team to catch the examination in Yuanling.
The night before departure, my grandmother told Huang Shaozhong: if you can't move, you can take a boat, and you can sit in Yuanling Wusu. At dawn that day, 6 elementary school students walked downstream along the unitary water, and at 3 p.m. they saw a small boat moored on the shore. The boat owner beckoned them: Wait for a few more passengers and sail the boat. After a while, two middle-aged men carrying goods came. The owner lifted the anchor, opened it, and went down the river.
The owner of the ship took the helm and pointed them out: Killing Bay, Fallen Fairy Shop, Bai Tian Tou... When the boat finally docked at Yuanling Wusu Wharf, the night was already low, and the lights in Yuanling City were lit up. The owner of the boat told them that from here, they would go uphill and walk forward to the county seat of Yuanling. This was Huang Shaozhong's first visit to Yuanling, and it was also the first time he saw the unitary water flowing into Yuan, and the yuanshui flowed forward silently in the night.
After graduating from junior high school, Huang Shaozhong was admitted to Pupu No.1 Middle School. Carrying his luggage, he took a boat from Zhenxi to Yuanling via Youshui, and then transferred the boat to Pupu via Pushui. From home to school, you have to drift on the boat for two or three days. If there is rain and snow, or if the ship is repaired or the owner has an accident, two or three days may become four or five days.

In 1964, he made a living on the water
Huang Shaozhong did not expect that after graduating from high school in 1964, he also became a boatman.
Huang Shaozhong, who accompanied his mother from Yongshun County to Taoyuan County for treatment, was a thin young man, and supporting himself and paying for his mother's medical expenses was an urgent problem to be solved at that time. After being introduced, the Taoyuan County Wooden Sailing Ship Transport Society gave him a position, as a small sailor on a large ship, running the waterway from the head of the Yuanling Border to the city of Taoyuan.
One year, Huang Shaozhong's boat went up to a beach called Yaniu Rock, the water was so strong that the penny was propped up in the crevices of the rocks, but it could not make the boat move forward half a meter. The owner of the boat threw a roll of cable to Huang Shaozhong and asked him to pull the fiber. Huang Shaozhong put on the rope, jumped into the water, and crawled towards the oblique front of the boat with a rolling belt. A few minutes later, Huang Shaozhong, who was struggling to crawl in the crevices of the rocks, was pulled back into the boat by the owner of the boat, and the hostess was relieved to see that he was safe and sound. It turned out that after he went into the water, the lady boss counted the owner of the boat down: he could not go into the water alone, and as soon as the boat retreated, it would be dragged into the water, where could he still have a life? After that, the owner, the sailor and the three of him each held a bamboo penny, fighting against the turbulent current, just a little up, and when the pen was exchanged for the penny, the boat retreated. After about half an hour, the boat finally passed the Yaniu Rock, and Huang Shaozhong threw down the penny and sat paralyzed on the board.
Two years later, Huang Shaozhong lost his job due to household registration problems, and he went to the Dongchengwan Timber Station in Yuanling and began a career on the Yuan River, and the water trip was extended from Chengshi to Deshan Sujiadu. Unlike transporting goods, the wood discharge goes downstream, and people have to walk back. After the handover of the wooden rows, the consignee will give them 4 days of food, because it is exactly 4 days to walk from Changde to Yuanling.

On Huang Shaozhong's desk was a copy of Shen Congwen's "Xiangxing Sanji", which he bought at the Xinhua Bookstore in Fenghuang County when he returned to Xiangxi during the Spring Festival in 2003. The life of the Yuanshui drainage worker described in this book, he felt very kind, he often looked over, drew red or black lines under the text, and wrote a sentence or two of reading feelings: The Pai Gu guys in the Yuanjiang River are not lepers, but the creators of the history of the Yuanjiang River.

When he was studying at Pupu No. 1 Middle School, Huang Shaozhong liked to dance and ink, write slogans, draw illustrations, and so on, and the teacher first thought of him. In 2008, in order to enrich the lives of the elderly, the Taoyuan County Cultural Center successively opened training classes on calligraphy, art, poetry, and Yang Lian, and Huang Shaozhong immediately became the most diligent student there. Later, when he painted the long volume of "Yuanjiang San'an Nine Caves and Eighteen Beaches", he was glad that he had laid the foundation of Chinese painting in those years.
In the spring of 2017, Huang Shaozhong, who copied the "Map of the Upper River of the Qingming Dynasty", suddenly had an idea: the scenery of the Yuanjiang River could also be drawn with this long scroll.

As soon as his thoughts flashed, Huang Shaozhong's mind immediately appeared the days of those years of living in the Yuanjiang River, those long beaches and rapids that exhausted people's brains and physical strength, those sailors who sat on the bow of the boat or sang the boat song on the rocks, the boss lady who worried about his safety, and the captain and wife who returned to Yuanling from Pupu to Yuanling in the year he graduated from high school, and the captain and his wife who provided him with food for two days free of charge. "The times are moving forward, the development of the Yuanshui cascade, sand mining, the ecology of the Yuanjiang River has changed, those old scenes that have long disappeared, those people and things that are engraved in the mind, Shen Congwen can write down with a pen, and I can also try to draw it with a pen." Determined to do so, Huang Shaozhong set out to find Li Qin, the old captain of Yuanling Beirong, Li Yongfa and Lei Tiangao, the old platoon leader of Yuanling Huangcaowei, the shape of the three hills and nine caves and eighteen beaches, and the names and locations of the villages and towns on both sides of the Yuanjiang River; the water level during the flood season and the dry season directly related to the mountain colors and scenery on both sides of the strait, and the dress and dress of the boatmen, and these elements cannot be mistaken in the painting. The three sailors who had been making a living on the Yuan River for decades, in their memories and arguments, Huang Shaozhong's first draft had a rudimentary form.
The first draft, the second draft, the third draft, several times the painting reached the half and then overturned and restarted, and even the ten-meter picture scroll was all invalidated. Three years later, in a log cabin in Red Crane Village, Yiwangxi Town, Taoyuan County, on a large desk with red paint peeling off, the 9-volume, 110-meter-long landscape painting of "Yuanjiang San'an Nine Caves and Eighteen Beaches" and its afterword came to an end.

On December 13, after reading the 110-meter-long scroll, Li Anjun, a member of the China Artists Association and chairman of the Taoyuan County Artists Association, sighed: This is a map of the thousands of miles of rivers and mountains in Yuanshui, and it is a precious historical material.
