Musk blasts Metafile and Web 3.0: I don't think anyone would tie a screen to their head all day long

Metaverses and Web 3.0 are supposedly two trends that will revolutionize the digital world. But Elon Musk, the richest man in the real world and Silicon Valley Iron Man, doesn't seem to be very optimistic about both.

In a recent interview, Musk said he didn't see any noteworthy metaverse VR applications in the market, and said he doesn't think metaverses will be able to land in the near future as a new trend.

"I didn't understand it anyway, at least not yet." Musk said.

Musk said he may just be "too old" to understand these new technologies. "In 1995, many people didn't see the value that the Internet would create for the future. Am I already one of those people? In 1995, Musk was one of the first to discover the future value of the Internet.

"When I was young, people told me not to get too close to the TV, it was very bad for the eyes. But now we're putting the screen directly on my eyes, which to be honest makes me a bit of a blindfold. ”

Not only is there a lack of landing examples, Musk also thinks that the consumer experience of the metaverse is disappointing: "Of course, you can put the TV on your nose, but I don't think it's called 'entering the metaverse'", he said, "I don't think anyone would really tie a screen to their face all day long, it's very uncomfortable." Even if the device could be designed to be very light and lightweight, I still don't think anyone would want to wear it all day. ”

Musk highlighted the vertigo symptoms of VR. He said: "I tried the games on Octlus and they played nicely, but it started to make me dizzy when I moved. Originally, when we played first-person games on a PC or console, we could move very quickly in the game without getting dizzy. But wearing VR glasses can cause a lot of dizziness. ”

Some voices say the metaverse is nothing more than an over-the-top propaganda for a series of virtual worlds. Some critics point out that with the failure of the VR boom of the 90s and the rise of virtual spaces like Second Life in the early 2000s, the metaverse is not really a completely new concept.

Web 3.0 is another alternative vision for the future of the Internet, starting with the use of encryption technology and blockchain to allow Internet users to directly benefit from their content and use, rather than allowing Internet giants to monopolize.

Musk didn't spend much time discussing Web 3.0 in the interview, but like Jack Dorsey, Ceo of Twitter, he expressed his skepticism about the project on Twitter. On December 20, US time, Musk said on Twitter: "I don't think Web3 is real — it's more like some marketing nonsense than it actually is." ”

Dorsey argues that Web3 will not promote democratization of society, but will only take the power to decide users away from existing internet giants such as Facebook and pass it on to venture capital funds.
