On December 18-20, the first national postdoctoral innovation and entrepreneurship competition was held in Foshan, with more than 5,000 teams and 24,000 people signing up for the competition. The competition has four categories: innovation competition, entrepreneurship competition, overseas (overseas) competition, and unveiling competition, and more than 1400 teams/projects from 47 delegations from all over the country have entered the finals.

This competition is not only a competition between outstanding young talents, but also a national platform for the majority of postdoctoral researchers to communicate and dock with enterprises, colleges and universities, and scientific research institutes.

In the national postdoctoral talent exchange and scientific research achievement transformation docking activities held at the scene, the competition specially set up more than 200 talent exchange booths. A number of units in the new generation of information technology, new materials, biomedicine and health, modern agriculture, intelligent manufacturing and other fields to provide more than 2,000 scientific research, teaching, management and other positions, plans to recruit a large number of doctoral and postdoctoral talents.

For example, Southern Medical University recruits postdoctoral fellows in biomedical disciplines, with a basic annual salary of up to 520,000 yuan, providing postdoctoral apartments or housing subsidies; South China Normal University provides postdoctoral students with benefits such as children enrolled in affiliated schools and kindergartens; the Second People's Hospital of Guangdong Province said that those who are outstanding in outbound assessment can directly stay in the hospital to work and enjoy a settlement fee of 100,000-3 million yuan.

Animal models refer to animals that can simulate the manifestations of human diseases, and animal models are needed in research in the field of medicine in order to understand the occurrence and development of human diseases and study prevention and control measures. "The guinea pig we talk about most often is actually an animal model."

Sun Jiaoyang said that the existing animal model preparation technology needs to go through the breeding and screening stage, and the production cycle is long, at least about a year. The "new generation of animal model preparation technology" that she and her team studied is the use of tetraploid technology to develop the edited stem cells into a complete mouse, shortening the modeling time to 35 days, compared with the conventional technology of preparing mice such as fertilized egg injection, it has the advantage of bypassing the breeding step and rapidly preparing homozygous precision mice in large quantities.

"At present, our team uses tetraploid compensation technology to improve the efficiency of preparing mouse models from 1%-5% to 30%-60%, achieving large-scale batch cultivation and solving the problem of industrial application of tetraploid technology." In Sun Jiaoyang's view, this technology cycle is short, the cost is low, the preparation process is simpler and faster, and it has important application value in the field of medicine in the future.

In the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, for example, this technology came in handy. In 35 days, Sun Jiaoyang and his team prepared more than 500 effective humanized ACE2 mouse models for use in the screening and antibody neutralization experiments of new crown pneumonia drugs in many units in China, which strongly supported the research and development of new crown vaccines and drugs.

Participating in the first national postdoctoral innovation and entrepreneurship competition made Sun Jiaoyang feel very excited. "I've met a lot of people who start a business or do projects like me, who are very active in thinking, who have unique views, and who are really feasible in the landing of the project." Sun Jiaoyang said that the competition allowed her to go out and collide with a group of "like-minded" people and learn new knowledge in industrialization.
