FIFA: The biennial World Cup can bring in an additional income of 3.3 billion pounds

According to Sky Sports, Nielsen, a consulting firm hired by FIFA, released an independent report showing that if the World Cup is changed from a quadrennial to a biennial one, the revenue generated by the World Cup will increase from 5.3 billion pounds to 8.6 billion, so FIFA's 211 member associations will receive an additional 12 million pounds every 4 years.

At the FIFA Global Summit on Monday, member associations issued the analysis. In the report, Nielsen Consulting predicted that due to the increase in media rights, sponsor fees and ticket revenue, the World Cup cycle will be shortened to a biennial edition, AND FIFA will increase its income by an additional 3.3 billion pounds, and the members of its associations will share an additional 12 million pounds every four years for the construction of new stadiums, youth training and coach training.

Of FIFA's 211 association members, 133 have never competed in the World Cup. FIFA believes that the biennial World Cup will improve the level of football in various countries and regions, and provide more opportunities for more countries or regions to participate in the World Cup.

OpenEconomics' research for FIFA also predicts that the biennial World Cup will add £136bn to global GDP over a 16-year cycle and create 2 million full-time jobs.
