Trioxytherapy, IQ tax, scams, or a new direction in medicine?

If everyone is not willing to care, let it go in disorder for a while

200ml of venous blood from the human body is drawn, injected into a sterilized container with an anticoagulant, and then about 200ml of the prepared medical trioxygen gas is injected into the container, and the blood is "filtered" by the strong oxidation of medical trioxide, and then the blood is re-transfused into the patient's vein.

Without surgery, without injections, without taking medicine, only through such a simple operation of blood draw and blood transfusion, the indications of its treatment cover three highs (hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia), cerebral infarction, insomnia, chronic fatigue syndrome, headache, postherpetic neuralgia, chronic hepatitis, arterial ischemia of the lower extremities, gout, chronic ischemic heart disease, cancer adjuvant therapy, sudden deafness, asthma and more than a dozen other diseases.

This is the "three-oxygen large self-hemorrhage therapy" (hereinafter referred to as trioxotherapy), in addition to being called "safe and reliable, good efficacy and fast effect, green dependence- no need to be hospitalized and followed by treatment", it is also advertised by some medical aesthetic institutions as "magical rejuvenation", and even hospitals try to use this therapy for the treatment of severe patients with new crown.

However, skepticism about triple oxygen therapy has always existed, with unbelievers dismissing it as an IQ tax or a scam. Under the question of "which pseudoscience is the most disgusting to you", the most praised answer of the 1818 answers is to expose the "blood purification project" in the medical aesthetic industry, and its principle and operation are the same as that of trioxytherapy.

But in many public hospitals, trioxytherapy is being vigorously promoted as a featured technology, is this an IQ tax, or a new direction of medicine that has not been fully studied and has unlimited potential?

Low level of evidence, not recommended?

Doubts about trioxytherapy are not unfounded.

In June 2018, the government of Beibei District, Chongqing Municipality, received an open mailbox message asking "Is ozone large self-hemotherapy legal?" In the letter, the District Health Commission replied: After investigation, the current diagnosis and treatment subjects do not have ozone large self-hemorrhage therapy subjects.

In May 2018, the Ningbo Evening News reported that Ningbo Sunshine Bo'ai Rehabilitation Hospital was investigated for providing triple oxygen therapy. The hospital charges 30,000 yuan for a course of treatment (15 times) for trioxytherapy, and calls the patient "family", and also said that after paying 30,000 yuan of treatment fees, you can still get the shares of this project, with the more people receiving trioxytherapy treatment in the hospital, the hospital will arrange dividends every month, about half a year can recover the cost of treatment, the more relatives and friends recommended by patients to receive trioxytherapy, the more shares can be obtained.

The Ningbo Jiangbei Health and Market Supervision Department conducted an investigation into Ningbo Sunshine Bo'ai Rehabilitation Hospital, and then the hospital posted a notice suspending treatment in the name of "renovating the trioxygen treatment room according to sterile operation". However, it also said to the outside world that "after the renovation, the hospital will report to the health bureau for acceptance and review, and then it will notify everyone to start doing it."

According to the report, the Medical Dispute Office of the Jiangbei Health Supervision Institute said that they have judged that the so-called "three oxygen therapy" is illegal and should be resolutely banned, and will be randomly inspected from time to time; the charges that have been incurred will be coordinated and resolved by both sides.

In Malaysia, although trioxytherapy is not banned, the Attitude of the Malaysian Ministry of Health towards the therapy is "not recommended" due to its low level of clinical evidence.

In 2018, the Pain Group of the Anesthesiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the Anesthesiologist Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the Trioxime Group of the Pain Branch of the Chinese Ethnic Medicine Association jointly formulated the "Expert Consensus on Trioxy autologous blood therapy". Based on evidence-based medicine, the "Consensus" divides the disease evidence levels of trioxytherapy treatment into 4 categories based on evidence-based medicine, with reference to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and the Oxford Center for Evidence-Based Medicine's Disease Evidence LevelIng Methodology, with no indications for Grade A evidence (with good scientific evidence that clinical benefits far outweigh potential risks).

It is becoming a "medical feature" of many hospitals

The lack of high-level evidence-based medical evidence is not because trioxytherapy is the latest medical discovery, in fact, in China it has formed a medicine from one therapy.

Ke An Jianxiong, vice president of the Aviation General Hospital of China Medical University, is an active promoter of trioxygenic medicine in China, and the "Expert Consensus on Trioxygenic Autologous Blood Therapy" was led by him, and he also edited and published "Trioxymed medicine", and held the "Trioxymed Medicine China Tour", touring the hospitals in various provinces and cities in China to cultivate trio-oxygen medical talents.

The history of the clinical application of trioxygen is introduced in the first chapter of "Trioxymedine": dating back to the early 20th century, in 1915 Berlin doctors first used trioxygen to treat skin diseases, and then triooxygen was used by the German army as an anti-infective drug to treat open wound anaerobic infections in the war, and German dentists used to treat oral infections. In 1936, french physician Aubourg injected an O2-O3 mixture of gases into the rectum for the treatment of chronic enteritis and intestinal fistula, which was the first application of rectal trioxyperfusion. In 1958, Joaquim Hansler of Germany invented the first trioxygener with concentration dose control, in 1968 Wolff first applied trioxygeneous autologous blood therapy to treat diseases, and in 1972 together with Hansler established the Medical Trioxygen Society.

In 1999, Yu Baofa took the lead in introducing trioxytherapy into China for cancer treatment, and in 2000, He Xiaofeng introduced trioxytherapy to treat diseases such as lumbar disc herniation, and in the past 20 years, a variety of trioxytherapy has been promoted in China.

Although there has always been a voice of doubt about trioxytherapy and the lack of high-level evidence-based medical evidence, trioxytherapy is not only popular with medical aesthetics and private medical institutions, but also many public hospitals have carried out this treatment project and publicized it as a medical feature of the department.

As of July this year, the "Three Oxygen Medicine China Tour" has held 96 lectures, including Xiangya Hospital, Weifang Medical College, Wuhan University People's Hospital, Jilin University First Hospital, Harbin Medical University Second Hospital, Qilu Hospital, Shanghai Tongji University Oriental Hospital, Peking University Aerospace Center Hospital, Tianjin Medical University Second Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University Shaw Hospital, Dalian Medical University Second Affiliated Hospital, Tsinghua University First Hospital, Lanzhou First Hospital, Aviation General Hospital of China Medical University and other medical centers and research institutes.

According to the information on the official website of the Medical Department of Tianjin University, at the beginning of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Tianjin University quickly integrated the scientific research strength and clinical resources of the School Medical Department and the affiliated Haihe Hospital, and after in-depth research and judgment on the clinical manifestations of the new crown pneumonia, proposed a medical trioxygen (O3) integration program for the patient's autologous blood treatment.

The clinical trial research plan of autologous blood trioxytherapy for new crown pneumonia was determined on February 16, 2020, and passed the ethical review of Haihe Hospital and the review of China Clinical Trial Registry. Haihe Hospital said that it successfully treated four cases of COVID-19 virus pneumonia, including critically ill patients, with this treatment, and was later included in the special report on the "Tianjin Model" of new crown pneumonia treatment released by the Tianjin Municipal Health Commission on March 4, 2020.

Cai Yi, director of the Pain Department of Wuhan Central Hospital, told the "medical community" that in the field of pain treatment, trioxytherapy has been carried out in many public hospitals, but trioxytherapy is still not a mainstream treatment method, only plays an auxiliary role, and the top three hospitals are more cautious about this, in some medical beauty institutions, private hospitals If the process is not standardized and unprofessional, it may cause serious adverse consequences.

Effective, how effective?

Cai Yi told the medical community that ozone has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, and the principle of hyperbaric oxygen chamber is more similar, especially in the field of pain treatment has been more widely used, there are also some studies to prove that the treatment of hepatitis, insomnia, three highs, high uric acid and so on have a certain effect, but it is impossible to be 100% effective.

But experts in the non-pain field are less optimistic and tolerant of trioxytherapy.

"Using three oxygen therapy to treat the 'three highs' is completely to fool people and cheat money, and promoting this is only to make money with goods." Hu Dayi, a famous cardiovascular disease expert, told the "medical community" that ordinary patients with three highs have already had a good effect by taking medicine normally, and the trioxygenic therapy that costs a lot of money is not as good as more exercise, less oil and less salt, and controlled diet. "It is some private hospitals that have no money to earn before they engage in large self-hecheting projects, and regular hospitals have not carried out these."

In the field of infectious diseases, some liver disease experts have pointed out that there are no reliable relevant papers or data to support the effectiveness of trioxytherapy in hepatitis treatment, and similar treatments are not mentioned in the Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B (2019 Edition).

At the same time, on some legal consultation or medical exchange platforms, there are many requests or complaints from victims who claim to have been deceived by trioxytherapy.

"I am a sophomore in Changsha, a year ago my grandfather found out that hepatitis B is suffering from the big three yang, the whole family is very anxious, accidentally found that a hospital in Wuhan has three oxygen autologous blood transfusion therapy, said it can be completely cured." At first, the doctor told us that it would be good to treat 2-3 courses, but after half a year of treatment there, Grandpa's illness did not get better... In this way, the cost of treatment will be a bottomless pit, and later grandpa was transferred to another regular hospital for treatment. ”

"The biggest problem right now is over-publicity and abuse. Trioxytherapy claims that what can be treated is not easy to treat, before carrying out treatment to make it clear to patients, it may be effective but only auxiliary effect, can not replace the traditional mainstream treatment methods, blood pressure lowering drugs, hepatitis drugs should be eaten and eaten. Cai Yi said.

As a leader and promoter of trioxygenic medicine in China, Professor An Jianxiong does not believe that trioxytherapy only plays an auxiliary role.

Professor An Jianxiong introduced to the "medical community" that the two techniques commonly used in the clinical treatment of pain: hormones and nerve damage, it has been proved that the road to pain treatment is very narrow, patients often relapse, or ineffective, and even cause complications, so we need to find an ideal therapy that can repair nerves and regulate nerves.

In Professor An Jianxiong's view, trioxytherapy is the "ideal therapy" he is looking for. "With trioxytherapy, coupled with other neuromodulation techniques, the long-term treatment effect of patients has increased dramatically and complications have been greatly reduced. After we saw the advantages over traditional therapies, we began to explore the wider application of trioxytherapy and basic laboratory research. ”

Has trioxygenous blood therapy been abandoned?

In December 2019, the General Office of the National Health Commission issued a notice on the "Guidelines for Capacity Building of Medical Services in Anesthesia (Trial)", and in the list of "Anesthesia and Pain Treatment Technologies" in annex 3 of the "Catalogue of Key Anesthesia Technologies", "trioxygen injection" and "trioxygeneous autologous blood therapy" are also prominently listed.

As an active promoter of trioxygenic medicine in China, Professor An Jianxiong has basically abandoned the "three-oxygen autologous blood therapy" and shifted his research direction to trioxygen local target therapy and rectal trioxygenation therapy.

Trioxytherapy, IQ tax, scams, or a new direction in medicine?

"The trioxygenic medicine we are promoting now is not autologous blood therapy, but local injection of water trioxide, we published trigeminal neuralgia, postherpetic neuralgia, femoral head necrosis and chronic pelvic pain are all using water trioxide, trioxygen autologous blood therapy may have advantages for immune diseases, but we have also basically replaced it with rectal trioxygenation therapy, which does not involve blood and will be safer."

Professor An Jianxiong said that the three oxygen injections of lesion targets guided by images have become the mainstream method for treating painful diseases. However, in many domestic hospitals, as well as in the medical aesthetic market, trioxygen autologous blood therapy is still the mainstream, and An Jianxiong hopes that this market can be regulated.

"There are relatively few doctors engaged in trioxygenic medicine, many doctors just use this therapy, do not do research, do not publish articles, so it is difficult to be convincing, we are now going to publish through research and articles to influence more people." Of course, there are indeed some institutions that use trioxytherapy to make huge profits, and these facts are also very clear and will be gradually regulated. Medicine should still be people-oriented, to solve the patient's problems as the basis, first of all, should adhere to the principle of not harming, can not do harm to the interests of patients, if you use this to get rich, it is definitely contrary to the purpose of medicine. ”

Professor An Jianxiong's team launched an article this month on the application of trioxytherapy to the treatment of necrosis of the femoral head, which has previously been accepted by the official journal of the American Association of Interventional Pain Physicians, Pain Doctor. Professor An Jianxiong said that for the first time, they proved that in addition to the classic treatment method of artificial joint replacement, there are other alternative therapies that can also be cured. ”

The traditional treatment method of femoral head necrosis is to replace the artificial joint, Professor An Jianxiong claims that they use trioxytherapy to treat femoral head necrosis, the efficiency is as high as 90%, 70% -80% can achieve clinical cure, patients can return to normal life. For patients with particularly early osteonecrosis of the femoral head, anatomical healing can be achieved.

For trioxytherapy, Professor Yu Buwei, the tenth chairman of the Anesthesiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, said that for many stubborn diseases with no significant short-term efficacy, such as stubborn insomnia, trioxotherapy should have a certain curative effect, especially in some places where the medical conditions are not too good, it is very marketable, and the patient's clinical subjective feeling is not bad.

"After all, many large hospitals do not have particularly good treatment, so there is a certain market space, but there is no charging standard, some cautious public hospitals refer to blood transfusion, hemodialysis projects to charge, some bold institutions directly charge high prices." If everyone is not willing to care, let it go in disorder for a while. ”
