According to foreign media reports, the famous VR social platform "Bigscreen" has just greatly improved the existing functions in a latest update. As an update that the official attaches great importance to, it brings a series of improvements to all supported headsets, including an increase in room size to 15 people.
Bigscreen is known to be a hugely popular social VR meetup app that lets users bring their PC into VR and share games, streaming, work, or anything else you can do on a PC with friends. Of course, as the main project, it can rent 2D and 3D movies, and designated users can watch them together.
Today, a new update to Bigscreen brings some significant improvements to the app.
Perhaps the most important change is that the room size was raised to 15 simultaneous users. This is an increase from 4 users in the task hosting room and 12 users in the PC hosting room.
The increase in the number of players was achieved through new dedicated servers that covered every room. Thanks to the new dedicated server, the developers say the stability of the streaming quality provided to other users in the room has been significantly improved, while also reducing bandwidth requirements for hosts.
If you have a huge room full of friends, it should now be easier to tell who is talking, even if there are a lot of things going on. This is thanks to an improved spatial audio system, which the developers say was completely rewritten with performance in mind, so it could first appear in the Quest version of the app, which allowed all versions of the game to share the spatial audio experience.
The update also brings significant improvements to Bigscreen's remote desktop feature, which allows Quest users to stream their PCs to their virtual rooms to share with friends. Developers say that previously, remote desktops ran at 30 FPS and could have high latency, low quality, and audio synchronization issues.
The new and improved Bigscreen Remote Desktop runs at 60 FPS, with flow rates of up to 100 Mbps and latency as low as less than 20ms.
Along with all these updates, the developers say that Bigscreen, which ran on the original Quest, received a huge performance boost. While the app used to struggle to maintain its native 72Hz frame rate when it had more than 8 users in a room, the original Quest can now "handle" 15 users with ease.
