The Bundesliga currently has some of the most talented young players in the world. Sancho left Manchester United in the summer, but Borussia Dortmund still have players like Haaland and Bellingham, while Bayern Munich have talented players like Musharra. Unfortunately for German teams, the best youngsters from other teams except Bayern will be at the mercy of Premier League teams – they can offer high transfer fees and salaries. Here are 10 players who could leave the Bundesliga in January, and some of them are more likely to trade than others...
Haaland (Dortmund)
Every elite club in Europe is now well aware of how well Haaland has performed for Borussia Dortmund in the past few seasons. His goal-scoring efficiency is almost unmatched, so the Norwegians are linked to Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus. Premier League teams, simply because of their vast wealth, are the most likely places to go to Haaland. While Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to approve a mid-season transfer, their position could change if a huge offer is received.
Bellingham (Dortmund)
Haaland will bring in almost 100 million euros in revenue for Borussia Dortmund, while another player who could bring more revenue to Dortmund in the future is Bellingham. United had actually tried to sign him before the England international moved to Borussia Dortmund and were still interested in bringing him to Old Trafford. However, now that both Liverpool and Chelsea are in the scramble, it is ultimately up to the players themselves to decide. Bellingham seems happy at Borussia Dortmund at the moment, however, like Haaland, the likelihood of a January transfer depends entirely on the offer.
Witsel (Dortmund)
The Belgian has underperformed the Hornets in 2021-22, so he could be tempted by a lucrative overseas transfer, with Juventus reportedly interested in taking him to the Allianz Arena. All of Juventus' midfielders have underperformed this season and Allegri seems looking to bring in another midfielder.
Marcus Thuram (Mönchengladbach)
Marcus Thuram became famous in Germany, and his father was the legendary Lilian Thuram. He has made outstanding goalscoring contributions before this season, scoring 21 goals and assisting 14 times in all competitions. However, his performances dropped sharply in the 2021-22 season as he didn't score goals and didn't have assists, mostly due to his injury. Borussia Möncheng may choose to cash out from Thuram, especially since he still has relatively good market demand.
Broby (Leipzig)
Broby's performance at Ajax won widespread acclaim and he eventually became a star in the first team of the Eredivisie giants. He chose to join Leipzig in the summer of 2021, but so far he has not left much of an impression in Germany, as he has only started one Bundesliga so far. Ajax coach Ten Haag recently expressed interest in bringing Broby back to the Netherlands, so this is an opportunity for the young striker to reinvigorate his career. Before moving to Leipzig, Liverpool had also been one of his suitors.
Amado-Hydara (Leipzig)
While players usually wait until they join the club to confirm their loyalty, Amado Heidara has in fact said he supports United a long time ago and is struggling to one day move to Old Trafford. In 2019, in an interview with German media, the Mali international said that he was indeed a Manchester United fan and would love to play for the Red Devils. "The club of my dreams is Manchester United," Hydra said in an interview. 'I'm going to do everything I can to one day play for that club." He worked with Manchester United's current manager Lonnick at Leipzig, so the transfer seems likely.
Taylor Adams (Leipzig)
Arsenal are likely to turn their attention to Leipzig midfielder Taylor Adams in January to strengthen Arteta's squad. According to British media reports, Arsenal may pursue Adams in the upcoming transfer window. The U.S. player has a £32.25 million termination clause that the Gunners may not be concerned about triggering if the club deems him a suitable candidate for the job.
Nkunku (Leipzig)
Nkunku emerged from the many youngsters of French football to join Leipzig as a relatively unknown figure, but he soon became one of the most versatile attacking players in the Bundesliga. And, after two years of playing for Saxony, some of Europe's biggest teams are starting to take notice. He was particularly impressed in the 2021-22 Champions League, scoring seven goals in six games despite Leipzig failing to qualify from the group stage. He has been linked to Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Lacroix (Wolfsburg)
Lacroix only moved from Sochaux to Fort Wolf two years ago in the summer. Since then, however, Lacroix has become one of Wolfsburg's most important players, finishing fourth in last season's Bundesliga and qualifying for the Champions League. He has previously expressed a desire to remain at the club in the summer, but now that they are eliminated in Europe's top competitions, he may decide to leave. Chelsea desperately need a good centre-back who is one of the many targets the Blues are aiming for.
Baumgartner (Hoffenheim)
Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern are all interested in signing Hoffenheim midfielder Christopher Baumgartner. Baumgartner is usually placed behind the striker, but can also play a role in the back of the midfield, where he is sometimes asked to play on the wing and cut inside into the opposing penalty area. After impressing with Hoffenheim's second team, Baumgartner was promoted to the first team and made his first-team debut as a substitute under Nagelsmann in May 2019 against Schalke. He is now a key player for Hoffenheim, but could only need €18 million if he were to move in the winter window.
