Relief of the Arch of Constantine
Hello everyone! Today I would like to introduce you to the relief of the Arch of Constantine in ancient Rome, located in the city of Rome, Italy.
In 315 AD, the Senate and the Roman people built a three-arched Arch of Constantine near the Colosseum to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Constantine's accession to the throne and the victory over his rival Maxentius.
It is a huge three-arch triumphal arch, 21 meters high, 25.7 meters wide and 7.4 meters deep.
Because it adjusts the proportion of height and width, it spans the middle of the road, making it appear huge.
The arc de triomphe is full of various reliefs inside and out, and the difference is such a great monumental building, the relief plates above the triumphal arch are taken directly from other buildings in Rome at that time, the main content is the life achievements of the emperors, such as Antony, Hadrian, etc., and below is the battle scene of Constantine the Great.
Therefore, although the Arch of Constantine is the latest of the three triumphal arches in Rome, the shadow of early Roman art can still be seen, and it is relatively well preserved.
On the surface, the huge arc de triomphe and the rich reliefs, although grand, lack the overall concept.
The reason is that the various parts of the Arc de Triomphe were not created as a unity, nevertheless, it is still a magnificent triumphal arch, especially the carvings of various important periods of the Roman Empire preserved on it, providing art historians with rich materials, that is, on the same building can clearly see the changes in the art of sculpture in Rome in different periods, which is a vivid history of Roman sculpture.
