On December 17, 2011, the Sony PlayStation Vita was released. Today marks the 10th anniversary of its launch.
The PSV is a handheld game console released by Sony, which is a new generation of portable hardware launched after the PlayStation Portable (PSP). There were originally two versions, a 3G/Wi-Fi compatible model and a Wi-Fi-only model. The former allows players to use mobile 3G data, making it possible to use internet communications anywhere.
Compared to the PSP's 4.3-inch, the initial PSV PCH-1000 used a 5-inch OLED display. Many players at the time were captivated by the vivid colors they had never seen before. What's more, the screen resolution has been upgraded to 960x544 pixels. It doesn't seem to be high-definition yet, but it's four times the PSP's 480x272 pixels, which was really beautiful at the time.
The screen supports touch operation, but the unique feature is that the PSV also has a trackpad on the back of the console. You may rarely get the chance to use it, but you can use it to play the PS4 remotely.
Although the PSV is a portable handheld, it is equipped with two analog sticks, which gives PSV games a more free way of expressing themselves. Although it is not as good as the handle of a home console, it is still very easy to operate.
In addition, the PSV is also equipped with microphones, accelerometers, gyroscope sensors and other functions, which are widely used. At the same time, the Skype app also logged on to PSV in 2012, and I don't know if anyone has used it to make video calls. However, the service was discontinued in 2016, mainly because of the popularity of smartphones.
The main model of the PSV was updated to the PCH-2000 series in 2013, which is thinner and lighter, and also adds 1GB of storage space. This generation is only available on Wi-Fi models. But the OLED screen was canceled and changed back to an LCD screen. The design has also been modified in appearance, and the overall shape is more rounded. This model is the final model of the PSV and was in production until march 2019, when production was announced.
Sony also released the PlayStation Vita TV on November 14, 2013. This is a fixed PSV that can be controlled using the DualShock handle on the PS console. Since it uses an external monitor, being able to enjoy PSV games on a large screen is one of its advantages.
PSV's starting lineup has reached a staggering 24, in addition to the familiar hit series such as Everybodys Golf 6, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Ridge Racer Vita, and Monster Radar, a special game that uses AR gameplay.
Unfortunately, due to the popularity of smartphones and the impact of mobile games, PSV's sales data is not ideal. On March 1, 2019, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the official discontinuation of PSVita in Japan, and Sony has no plans to launch its successor at this stage.
