Two years later, in 2014, Shen Jun also passed away and walked into the joint tomb of Mr. Ding Cong and her, using this epitaph to interpret her life with Mr. Ding Cong. What Xiao Ding did not say was that Shen Chong, who was born in Fujian, was the great-granddaughter of Shen Baozhen, a famous minister of the Qing Dynasty, and the granddaughter of Lin Zexu, the daughter of the family and a famous family. But when she walked from Wangfujing to East Chang'an Avenue, she was suddenly kidnapped by U.S. Marine Captain Williams Pearson and Corporal Pritchard to Dongdan Square for rape. Meng Zhaojie, a passing Peiping worker, failed to rescue him twice, so he ran to the seven substations of the Beiping police station to report the crime, the main culprit Williams Pearson was arrested on the spot, and Corporal Prisc chad escaped. The trial ended on January 22 of the following year, and Pearson's defense lawyers failed to convince the military judges in their feeble defense. Pearson was found guilty of all charges, demoted to a private and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Pritchard was subsequently convicted of assault by another military tribunal, discharged for unscrupulous conduct, and sentenced to 10 months in prison. On March 5, General Howard, commander of the U.S. Marine Corps First Division in China, approved the court-martial verdict, which still needs to be approved by the Secretary of the Navy in Washington. In mid-June of that year, the Naval Judge recommended Pearson's release and reinstatement as Captain, citing insufficient evidence.
As a result, the student movement, which had already cooled down a lot of anti-American demonstrations, ignited anger, leading to their renewed petitions and protest statements. Public opinion pointed out: "If an American soldier who raped a Chinese girl can be regarded as innocent, then in the eyes of Americans, what kind of person has Chinese become?" But the U.S. side only made a show "to calm the renewed excitement" and finally revoked the original verdict. Shen Chong evaporated from this world, and there was no news.
In 1957, Shen Chong, who returned to Shanghai and graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages of Fudan University and was assigned to work in the Propaganda Department of the Foreign Languages Committee for several years, had gradually forgotten the former Shen Chong, and she was strong and independent, and she worked hard to study and work, which attracted the attention of her classmate Ding Yiwei.
