Some people say that Shen Baozhen was strangled to death by a ghost, and after Shen Baozhen became an official of the imperial court, it was inevitable that there would be mistakes, unjustly killed some good people, and was haunted by some unjust ghosts. It is said that when Shen Baozhen was seriously ill, there was an endless stream of patients, and Shen Baozhen only held the hand of Tu Zongying, the mayor of Jiangning, and did not let go, and some people inferred that at that time, Shen Baozhen felt that the ghost qi around Tu Zongying was even lighter, so he said the last words of "staying tu and serving the sick, and you must not leave".
How did Shen Baozhen die? Tu Zongying had been serving in front of Shen Baozhen's bed, and he had not closed his eyes for several days and nights. One day, when he encountered something important, he saw that Shen Baozhen was sleeping soundly, so he got up and left. In an instant, Shen Baozhen began to cry wolf, Tu Zongying quickly returned, it was one step too late, and Shen Baozhen died out of the world. It is said that Shen Baozhen was very frightening when he died, his tongue sticking out like a dog spitting out its tongue, full of claw prints that were an inch deep, and the features did look like a ghost strangled to death. Although this statement is unscientific, as the saying goes, there are no ghosts under the ninth floor, and there are gods on the three-foot head. People are watching the heavens, if Shen Baozhen's life is indeed heavily indebted and evil, the tragic death may be Shen Baozhen's retribution.
After Shen Baozhen's death, people built his mausoleum in Meiting Village, the western suburb of Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, and Shen Baozhen's tomb was on the south side of Huofeng Mountain in Meiting Village, facing north and south, in a ruyi shape.
Shen Baozhen's tomb is a three-in-one earth structure, with four layers of tombs, the entire Shen Baozhen tomb is 10.9 meters wide and 20.5 meters deep, and the sealed mound is high and raised, shaped like an upside-down kettle. In front of the sealed mound of Shen Baozhen's tomb, there are granite tombstones, the tombstones are about 85 meters high and 60 meters wide, and the thickness of Shen Baozhen's tombstones is 155 centimeters, which looks very tall and majestic, which is enough to show the mourning of the people who erected the monument for Shen Baozhen's death.
The tombstone is engraved with an inscription, and the font on the book is in letters, which is a description of the owner of Shen Baozhen's tomb, calling Shen Baozhen a senior official. On both sides of Shen Baozhen's tombstone stands a pair of lions cast in triad clay, the male lion is in a state of playing balls and frolicking, while the female lion carries the baby lion on the other side. The altar of Shen Baozhen's tomb has reliefs of animals. This is the state in which Shen Baozhen's tomb was just built, which is enough to show how much Shen Baozhenxian hit the world when he died, and how unwilling the world was to him. After years of wind and rain, Shen Baozhen's tomb has lost the integrity of his early years, both sides of the tombstone have been mutilated, and the inscription has become blurred, without the style of the past.
In 1988, the Fuzhou Cultural Relics Preservation Committee decided to repair and sort out Shen Baozhen's tomb, and Shen Baozhen's tomb was improved and continued to be presented to the world. In 1992, Shen Baozhen's tomb was listed as a cultural relics protection object in Fuzhou, and many people came to mourn this famous minister of the late Qing Dynasty every year.
The most famous of Shen Baozhen's descendants is Shen Dankun, who is the sixth generation grandson of Shen Baozhen and his father is Shen Zumu. As a descendant of Shen Baozhen, Shen Dankun's father, Shen Zumu, was deeply influenced by the New Culture Movement and later became a poet of the Crescent Moon School.
