Finnish mobile gaming giant Supercell recently announced plans to set up its first studio in North America. Ryan Wener, who will serve as general manager of the new studio, has been with Supercell for 8 years, having previously held the role of Head of Marketing.

Supercell said the company is currently assembling a core team for the new studio. According to Supercell's plan, North American studios will develop games for a number of different platforms, rather than being limited to mobile platforms. "We started this new team with one goal, and that is to bring together the best game developers in North America to create a cross-platform game, not just a mobile game." Weiner said.

On mobile platforms, Supercell's game Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Cartoon Farm, Island Raiders and Brawl for the global market have become bestsellers. Interestingly, the Finnish company's first game wasn't a mobile game, but Gunshine, an MMO that landed on Facebook in 2011. As the game's market performance and player response failed to meet expectations, Supercell decided to switch to a mobile platform to produce games.
