Harry · Kane celebrated his 100th appearance for the England nation when he scored twice to help England win 2-0 over Finland in the UEFA Nations League.
The Bayern Munich striker's first-half header was ruled offside and he scored twice in the second half to help Lee · Carsley win his second successive win as England interim manager.
How the game unfolded
Unsurprisingly, England dominated the opening stages. Bukayo · Saka was at the heart of a goalmouth scramble after just four minutes, but it took the Three Lions 20 minutes to get their first shot on target. Kane found some space but a ferocious shot was blocked by Lucas · Hradecki.
Moments later, the Bayern Munich striker did send the ball into the back of the net with a header, but the offside flag soon canceled the celebration. While it was mostly a one-way attack, Topi · Keskinen did keep Jordan · Pickford scrambling and should have helped equalise despite the shouts of the unmarked Temu · Pukki.
Bukayo Saka shot high from distance as England tried to exploit possession before Trent · Alexander-Arnold's low shot got fans up from their seats and the ball went wide of the post. At half-time, England found themselves in 77% possession but had only two shots on target, failing to break through Finland's stubborn defence.
At the start of the second half, Kane's low-flying free-kick stung Hradecki's gloves and the Finland goalkeeper had to be vigilant to keep out Anthony· Gordon and Kane again, but it was undeniable that England scored a long ball in the 57th minute.
After getting rid of the defenders, Kane fired a thunderous shot from the edge of the box that flew past Hradecky and into the crossbar. Kane scored his second goal with 15 minutes remaining, receiving a pass from debuting Noni · Madueke and curling the ball perfectly into the back of the net, removing any doubts about the result.
