Yangon, 15 Dec (Xinhua) -- The Central Bank of Myanmar announced on 14 December that it will allow the use of renminbi and myanmar dollars to directly settle border trade in the China-Myanmar border area from now on.
The Central Bank of Myanmar issued a notice on the same day that in order to promote border trade between China and Myanmar and promote the facilitation of bilateral currency transactions and settlements, eligible banks in Myanmar are allowed to open RMB accounts for importers and exporters engaged in border trade.
In January 2019, Myanmar announced the addition of the renminbi as its official settlement currency. In October this year, Myanmar announced that banks and non-bank money changers holding foreign currency settlement licenses and exchange licenses in China would be allowed to exchange yuan.
