The founding emperor of the Northern Qi Dynasty was Emperor Wenxuan Gao Yang. However, Gao Yang, the founding emperor, had the same magic as Sima Yan of the Western Jin Dynasty—Sima Yi, the founder of the Western Jin Dynasty, Cao Wei' chancellor. Later, through the consolidation of Sima Shi and Sima Zhao, Sima Yan officially replaced Cao Wei and established the Western Jin Dynasty.
The same was true of the Northern Qi Dynasty. In the last years of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Northern Wei court under the toss of Empress Hu, turmoil, and even Xiao Liang of the Southern Dynasty once took advantage of the turmoil of The Northern Wei to run out and take advantage of the fire, and gao Yang's father, Gao Huan, in this context, in the name of "King Qin", grew his power and divided one side, and eventually, led to the division of Northern Wei into two regimes, the Western Wei regime under Yuwen Tai's control and the Eastern Wei regime under Gao Huan's control.
Shortly after Gao Huan's death, Gao Huan's eldest son Gao Cheng briefly took control of Eastern Wei. Gao Cheng originally wanted to replace the Eastern Wei Emperor and establish himself as emperor, but he did not expect that he did not have that blessing, and eventually died prematurely, thus cheapening Gao Yang.
At that time, the land of China was in a three-way pattern of dividing the world - Western Wei (Northern Zhou), Eastern Wei (Northern Qi) and Southern Dynasty. Of the three, Northern Qi's power was initially the most powerful, but under the toss of the Gao family's kings, from Gao Yang's claim to the throne to the demise of Northern Qi, Northern Qi existed for only twenty-seven years before being annexed by Northern Zhou.

Among the absurd heavenly sons of Northern Qi, Emperor Wucheng of Northern Qi, Gao Zhan, was regarded as the representative of the kings of Northern Qi.
Gao Zhan is the son of Gao Huan. As mentioned above, the founding emperor of Northern Qi was Gao Yang, another son of Gao Huan, and according to the patriarchal system, the normal order of succession, it was difficult for Gao Zhan to be eligible to inherit the throne.
However, the Hu-led (Gao family was a Huhua Han) dynasty has always been inappropriate for the patriarchal system. Therefore, after Gao Yang's death, the throne of Northern Qi changed, mostly due to the coup d'état of the clan. Before Emperor Xiaozhao of Northern Qi died, Gao Zhan was already preparing to launch a coup d'état to overthrow the new emperor. And Emperor Xiaozhao also knew that his son could not play his brother Gao Zhan, so he pushed the boat along the water and let Gao Zhanlai inherit his throne, and thus Gao Zhan became the Son of Heaven of Northern Qi.
At the beginning of Gao Zhan's reign, he also made some efforts to cheer up northern Qi's national strength. As the throne was secured, Gao Zhan began to become absurd. Indulge in harem pleasures all day long.
Gao Zhan even forcibly occupied Li Zu'e (Gao Yang's wife, Gao Zhan's imperial concubine), and what was even more surprising was that Li Zu'e also gave Gao Zhan a son—this phenomenon of a long-lost monarch's wife who could still have children many years later was considered an odd story after the Qin Dynasty, and this kind of strange story happened in Northern Qi.
What is even more surprising is that while Gao Zhan's own absurdity, Gao Zhan's empress Hu Shi did not hesitate to let go of the absurdity - Empress Hu and the chancellor and Shi Kai actually had an adulterous affair.
In order to devote all his time to pleasure, Gao Zhan, therefore, handed over all the power of the dprk to some traitors. Under the toss of this group of traitors, Northern Qi's national fortunes plummeted - it is generally believed that Northern Qi was transformed from the strongest of the three kingdoms to the first to perish, and the turning point was during Gao Zhan's reign.
The last days of The High Cham
In the fourth year of the Northern Qi Heqing Dynasty (565 A.D.), Gao Zhan, who had only been on the throne for four years, ceded the throne to his son Gao Wei in the name of "conforming to the heavenly signs and letting go of the sages", and went to the harem to begin to concentrate on pleasure. This year, Gao Zhan was only twenty-nine years old.
As emperor Taishang, Gao Zhan, who did not have to worry about state affairs, became more indulgent in the harem, and eventually, because of his lack of physical strength, he died at the end of the fourth year of the Northern Qi Tiantong (569 CE). At this time, Gao Zhan was only thirty-two years old, only four years before his abdication.
Eight years after Gao Zhan's death, Northern Qi perished.
