"Calm as the Sea"

Adapted from the novel of the same name by French writer Vercors. The original book was written in 1941, during the occupation of France by the Germans in World War II. The writer was underground at the time, and surprisingly he did not write about fascist atrocities or the raging resistance movement, but in gentle strokes about the warm pulse between an old French gentleman and his niece and a German officer living at home. The secret publication of the novel caused a strong response and became a classic literary work of the French World War II period.
