Convergence of science warm currents to build an innovative highland

Winter bay area, warm as spring. The Greater Bay Area Science Forum with the theme of "Exploring the Future, Sharing Science" opened in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province on December 11.

Initiated by the Belt and Road International Alliance of Scientific Organizations, hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Government and hosted by the Guangzhou Municipal Government, the Greater Bay Area Science Forum jointly discusses the development trend of global science and its impact on the future, promotes scientific exchanges and mutual learning among countries, and contributes wisdom and strength to promoting the great prosperity and development of regional and global science.

"Strive to build a global highland of scientific and technological innovation and promote the development of emerging industries."

"We have more confidence and confidence in exploring the future!"

…………

On the banks of the Pearl River and Pazhoutou, more than 100 Nobel Laureates, academicians and innovative entrepreneurs who participated in the "online + offline" form spoke one after another, just like a "warm current" pouring into the Greater Bay Area, working together to promote this "scientific hot land" to climb the "innovation highland".

According to the data, the R&D investment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will reach nearly 360 billion yuan in 2020.

"Building an international science and technology innovation center with global influence is one of the five strategic positioning of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area." At the opening ceremony of the forum, Ma Xingrui, governor of Guangdong Province, said that scientists from all over the world are looking forward to academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation in the Greater Bay Area, and promoting more scientific research achievements to achieve practical productivity.

In recent years, the construction of the International Science and Technology Innovation Center in the Greater Bay Area has achieved remarkable results, the international top innovation resources have been accelerated, and there are a number of scientific research institutions, laboratories and national science projects with important influence, bringing together nearly 200 academicians and Nobel Prize winners at home and abroad, showing strong innovation vitality.

"The Greater Bay Area Science Forum is a world-class exchange platform between science and technology, enterprises, financial institutions and governments. This platform will play a very important role in the future direction of the technology industry and basic science in the entire Greater Bay Area. Zhao Yuliang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of the Guangdong Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area National Institute of Nanotechnology Innovation, said that in order to transform nanotechnology from the previous research results, the nanoscience sub-forum of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum can play a catalytic role.

After the opening ceremony of the forum on the afternoon of December 11, a number of Nobel Prize winners and well-known academicians and experts made keynote speeches. Among them, Richard John Roberts, winner of the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and president of the Nobel Prize-winning Science Alliance, talked about how biotechnology can truly help humanity.

At the first Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Summit, the case of digital technology helping the fine management of the project also attracted attention. In order to maximize the protection of the ecology along the route, the Pearl River Delta water resources allocation project chose an underground deep water transmission method with higher construction difficulties and more difficult safety control, and Guangdong Yuehai SeaWater Co., Ltd., which undertook this project, joined hands with Tencent Cloud to deploy Internet of Things equipment at the construction site and create a modern construction management platform. Managers can view the work of more than 100 construction sites and more than 6,000 construction workers in real time, and can also identify and alert potential hazards through technologies such as artificial intelligence.

"Help more small and medium-sized science and technology innovation enterprises to communicate and develop, move towards 'specialization and innovation', solve more practical 'scientific and technological pain points', and promote the cultivation of more world-class 'hidden champions'." Tencent, one of the co-organizers of the summit, said.

The permanent site of the forum is located in Nansha, Guangzhou, and is set according to the model of "1+6+1", that is, 1 high-level plenary meeting, 6 sub-forums and 1 special activity of the Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Summit will be held. As Bai Chunli, chairman of the "Belt and Road" International Alliance of Scientific Organizations and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said, it is necessary to build the Greater Bay Area Science Forum into a "science and technology Davos" and benchmark its world influence.

"Covid-19 testing and vaccine development owe much to researchers in Wuhan, China, who first published the results of genetic sequencing of covid-19. This is an excellent example of helping the world through scientific exchanges and cooperation, and a testament to China's acquisition and sharing of its achievements in the early days of COVID-19. "Richard John Roberts' views on current global concerns were shared by many of the scientists present. At the life science sub-forum of the forum, Gao Fu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, called for the world to share vaccines, "the virus does not have a passport." On this issue, we want the peoples of the world to work together. ”

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area should rise from a "scientific hot land" to an "innovation highland", and actively carry out sharing and cooperation with the world is also the only way. Liang Zhenying, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, believes that the scientific and technological innovation in the Greater Bay Area must adhere to the global vision, adhere to the "four aspects", with the goal of improving the country's innovation source capacity and global resource allocation ability, actively invest in the overall situation of international innovation, and join hands with the world to grasp opportunities and cope with challenges.
