Located in the Shougang Park at the foot of Shijing Mountain, the Shougang Ski Jump is the only snow competition venue in Beijing and will host the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Ski Jumping Event.
In order to develop this new project, races are usually held in urban areas, but snowmaking conditions are harsh, and laying a perfect race track is not an easy task.
On November 27, 2019, the Shougang Ski Jump was officially delivered. The venue is ready, but the test really begins.
The best conditions for snowmaking are minus 3°, but most of the daytime temperatures in Beijing do not meet the conditions for snowmaking, so the snowmaking team generally starts working at night.
A race requires 6,000 cubic meters of snow, from 8 pm to 8 am, the snow team can check at any time according to the weather conditions, at the best time to make snow, it takes about 15 days.
Snowmaking is only the first step, and with the addition of spreading, leveling and track shaping later, it will take about 32 days.
The most basic part of the track is the steel plate, if the temperature rises, the snow appears slightly melted, the friction between the steel plate and the snow will be reduced, there may be snow slides, in order to firmly "grasp" the snow on the steel plate, the design team of the Shougang Ski Jump has developed some special measures.
The team laid a hydrophobic pad on top of the steel plate at the bottom of the track, which is somewhat felt-like, which creates a large friction with the snow, fixing the snow on it, and if there is a slight melt, the water will be adsorbed into the hydrophobic pad.
Above the hydrophobic pad, there is also a layer of snow net. For the temporary big jumping competition venue, wooden boards or other simple materials will generally be used, but the Shougang Ski Jumping Platform will be retained permanently, and the design team finally decided to use solid snow net after discussion with the experts of the International Snow Federation.
Double insurance guarantees that the snow on the track will not go down.
As early as December 2019, the Shougang Ski Jump completed its debut after its completion, and the members of the national team came to the Shougang Ski Jump for the first time, and they were full of praise, "Before they were training abroad, we finally had our own venues", "I thought it would be good before, but I didn't think it would be so good." ”

In 2008, Shougang relocated on a large scale for the Beijing Olympic Games. After the Olympic Games, the former steel giant, the blast furnace stood but no longer smoke and dust, and the factory building still did not see the roar of the machine.
Shougang Park was silent, until the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee settled in, to the "four ices" and other Winter Olympic training venues were completed and put into use, and then to the Shougang Ski Jump was completed and put into use, and the "dormant" Shougang Park was awakened again.
In order to solve the long-term utilization problem, at the beginning of the design, the track reserved water outlet. In the post-Olympic era, in addition to continuing to be used for big jumping competitions and training, Shougang Ski Jumping can also be transformed into water skiing, grass skiing and other project venues according to demand.
Taking the Winter Olympics as an opportunity, Shougang is also gradually realizing transformation and upgrading.
