Before Tan Sitong was about to be executed, his wife cried out: We don't have children yet! His answer was helpless and bitter

Tan Sitong died on August 13 (September 28) in the twenty-fourth year of Guangxu (1898), which is a tragic day worth commemorating, and is known in history as one of the "Six Gentlemen of Penghu".

It is said that Tan Sitong refused the advice to flee abroad and made a generous statement: "All countries that change the law are caused by bloodshed, and today China has not heard of anyone who bleeds because of the change of law, and the reason why this country is not prosperous." If so, please start with the same heir. ”

He dedicated his life to the cause of restoration with his blood, and finally left his name in history with the inscription poem "I smile at the sky from the horizontal knife, and go to leave the liver and gallbladder for two kunluns" in prison.

Before Tan Sitong was about to be executed, his face did not change color, and he shouted loudly: "If you have the heart to kill a thief, you are powerless to return to heaven, and you will die where you want, hurry up!" Hurry! ”

Spirited woman

Tan Sitong's death is like a rolling sea, the surface is magnificent, and the bottom is quiet.

After Tan Sitong's sacrifice, among the many alliances, there was a pair of alliances that spoke the hearts of hundreds of millions of people:

"Non-laughing laughter, horizontal knife praise knife, vegetable market thousand autumn light blue blood;

Can not escape, when death stands to die, China is eternally a Liuyang. ”

It is worth mentioning that Tan Sitong's wife, Li Yan, was a well-read "female man" who had "collected the biographies of the martyrs of the past dynasties and discussed them in various departments."

After Tan Sitong was killed, she "entered the Xiangfu Office on her knees, wept bitterly on her knees, killed herself with an inch of her sleeve, and spilled blood on her neck and died in Chen Youming's (i.e., Chen Baozhen, The Inspector of Hunan, Chen Sanli's father)" (Yi Zongkuo's "New World Sayings").

In fact, this is not the truth, although Li Yan cried all day after Tan Sitong's death, he did not kill himself.

arranged marriage

Tan Sitong and Li Yan are typical parental arranged marriages. Li Yan was the daughter of Li Huangxian of Wangcheng, Changsha. Li Huangxian was a sixth-year jinshi of Xianfeng, who was the head of the household department, worked in the poetry of Lefu, and was a colleague of Tan Si's father Tan Jixun. Li Yan is a typical old-fashioned woman who has been educated from three to four virtues since childhood.

It is said that once Tan Jixun saw Li Huangxian, the split head was a sentence: "Your daughter is a good daughter, and my daughter-in-law is also a good daughter-in-law!" The two clapped their hands and laughed. It can be seen that in the minds of both sides, Li Yan is definitely a virtuous and good woman.

Tan Sitong and Li Yan respect each other as guests, and the two have a deep affection. Li Yan presented herself as a happy sheep wife, and silently supported her husband's reform behind her back. When Tan Sitong initiated the establishment of the Chinese Women's Association, Li Yan served as a director and shared a lot of specific work; when Tan Sitong launched the non-foot binding campaign, Li Yan led the big foot women in his family to the streets to publicize the benefits of not binding feet.

The couple are deeply in love

The third day of the fourth lunar month of the 24th year of Guangxu (1898) was the 15th anniversary of Tan Sitong's marriage to his wife Li Yan, and he was preparing to go to Beijing to participate in the New Deal.

Loving husband and wife, about to be separated, the affection is long, Tan Sitong then made a rather Buddhist "Wu Shu North to Leave the Inner Son" to his beloved wife Li Yan:

"Praise the Garter, and rejoice again, not to catch the Western Elysium that has been born. In all lifetimes, the same lotus flower, such as the Biga Ling Piga bird, can congratulate each other. I hope to strive for more refinement, self-esteem, and double cultivation of blessings and wisdom.

Shi Yun: The world of Pasa is full of sages, and the Pure Land is born of this relationship. For fifteen years, his classmates have raised relatives and raised their nephew Lai Junxian. ”

The words are filled with Tan Sitong's deep affection for his wife who has been married for "fifteen years".

Doom is coming

After Tan Si went north, Li Yan, who was worried about his stomach day and night, often burned incense on the moon and prayed for the safety and smoothness of her husband who was traveling far away.

She wrote in her diary: "If there is bad luck, the letter woman Li Yan is willing to die." ”

It is really the true feelings of a weak woman, the supreme nature of a fierce woman!

Tan Sitong's letter to Li Yan in Changsha, titled "Lady Rumi", exhorted limousine to "regard glory as a dream, and regard death and humiliation as a common thing", as if he already had a certain premonition, and wanted to make Li Yan mentally prepared.

Because the two gathered less and left more, and the only son died in his early years, he had no heirs.

It is said that when Li Yan visited her husband in prison, she expressed her guilt and did not leave any heirs for the Tan family for many years after marriage. Tan Sitong comforted his wife: In today's world, having one more child is one more slave!

The fate of the country is also the fate of the individual, the country is hopeless, and how much hope does the descendants of the individual have? How much helplessness and bitterness was contained in Tan Sitong's answer!

The towel is perfect

After Tan Sitong was martyred, Li Yan called himself "Shengsheng" to show that he was sad and humiliated and temporarily lived. In order to honor and commemorate the martyrs, she also moved out of her original bedroom and lived elsewhere.

Moreover, Li Yan wrote a mourning poem every year on the occasion of the death day, until her death in 1924 at the age of 60. Among them, there is a seven-law poem "Mourning death" written by him when he first heard bad news, and word of mouth has been passed down to this day:

"Xu Heng Yu Gong did his best, and the enemies of the country and the family cried new."

Drink and hate the trombone mourning concubines, singing and sighing short and composing loyal subjects.

There is no longer a grand ambition to reward the Lord, and there is nothing left to do.

The bleak and deep sorrow of the night is eternal, and the undead are sad in front of the lamp! ”

In 1925, on Li Yan's 60th birthday, Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao jointly sent a plaque: "The Scarf is Perfect", which is perhaps the highest honor for Liuyang women.

Li Yan later died in the same year.

Sorrow and hatred, with this great woman for a lifetime, but she was not overwhelmed, she used her own no complaints and no regrets, set an example of "perfect people".
