Guangdong Xiaoqu, is a silk and bamboo ensemble music circulating in the Pearl River Delta, derived from traditional instrumental music, folk minor tunes, opera music, etc., originally as a Cantonese opera cutscene, so it is also known as "cutscenes" or "small songs", etc., and later produced a lot of music that can be played independently, and after it was passed to other provinces, it was called "Guangdong Xiaoqu".
In terms of musical style, Guangdong Xiaoqu has distinct local colors and unique national styles, with smooth melody, light rhythm, bright timbre, rich in southern national tones, and representative songs include "Dry Day Thunder", "Rain Hitting Basho" and so on.
Teacher Huang Dexing, who has devoted his life to Guangdong music creation and excavated traditional musical materials such as Cantonese folk songs, Cantonese small songs and minor keys, has created a large number of Cantonese folk songs, instrumental music, Guangdong small songs and other multi-genre and formal works, and the melodies, instruments and lyrics of these works are all developed around Lingnan music. This time, his trio "Spring and Lychee Bay" was named the 2021 "Guangdong Music New Classic Project" original folk music outstanding work.

In the process of conceiving "Spring and Lychee Bay", Teacher Huang Dexing intercepted a scene of Lingnan land and thought about the business of "Spring" in Lingnan: if the way of Guangdong music ensemble is used, whether it is from the compilation of musical instruments or the sound effects, it is too thick to highlight the timeless, elegant and beautiful natural scenery of Lingnan; if the writing method of solo is adopted, it cannot better reflect the imagery of "spring", "Lychee Bay" and "flowing water", and it needs to be contrasted from the accompaniment and orchestration. Therefore, teacher Huang Dexing adopts neutral subtractive thinking in the form of performance, and selects the combination of three instruments of Guangdong music characteristic instruments Gao Hu, Zi, Gu Zheng, to express the content of the work, through the quiet and elegant of the gong, the graceful elegance of the gao hu, the flowing water of the guzheng, the alternating horizontal melody of the birds and flowers, the flowing water of the small bridge, the pavilions and pavilions of Yangcheng Lychee Bay.
Teacher Huang Dexing designed three performance changes in the allegro in the middle of "Spring and Lychee Bay", and at the same time drew on the playing techniques of the instrument qudi that reflected the characteristics of Jiangnan, using rhythm changes to reflect the feeling of flowing water in Lychee Bay, combined with the guzheng, there is a feeling that seems to make people go to the scene, the third time to C key, and the use of Guangdong's characteristic instruments two strings, this paragraph repeats the words are very timely, but also has the taste of Cantonese music.
In order to make it easier to promote and popularize the excellent new works of Guangdong music, Teacher Huang Dexing put forward the suggestion of "one song and two uses" - inviting lyricists to fill in the words of the song, adding some creations, and becoming Guangdong small songs, so that the works can be repeatedly sung, and strive to achieve "music by people", so that each work has greater appeal and is more widely disseminated. In the past, a large number of Cantonese small songs were filled in on the basis of Cantonese songs, circulated in various theaters in the society, which is a good way to spread, so Guangdong music can have such brilliant achievements, which is the creation of cultural wealth by Guangdong people, which should be well inherited. Teacher Huang proposed that composers or government departments should increase their investment in this regard to produce such rich cultural products, and in time, this piece of music can slowly become a classic.
Teacher Huang Dexing adapted his two works "Spring and Lychee Bay" and "Five Sheep Drunken Music" into Cantonese songs, which were sung by Cantonese singer Liang Yurong, who won the "Mandarin Award" and the "National Quyi Peony Award", and Wong Chun-ying, a Cantonese cross-talk master.
