A true story that takes place at Christmas – love

As President Reagan commemorated the 40th anniversary of his victory in World War II, he told a true Christmas story.

The Germans were gone, and Hitler was dying to launch a surprise attack on the Ardennes before Christmas. The two sides fought fiercely in a snowstorm and suffered heavy casualties.

In the forest near the battlefield, there is a dilapidated log cabin where a German woman, Elizabeth, hides with her 12-year-old son, Frisse.

On Christmas Eve, the snow closed the mountain, and there was a knock at the cabin. It turned out to be three American soldiers, who wandered in the forest for three days and three nights because they were lost, hungry and cold, and asked to enter the house for warmth. Elizabeth did not know English, but could communicate with an American soldier in French. After a moment of hesitation in communication, she invited them into the house. She first placed a seriously wounded soldier on the bed, and then asked her son to kill a chicken he had raised at home and bring some potatoes for Christmas dinner.

The atmosphere had just eased when there was another knock at the door. Four German soldiers also asked to enter the house. The little Frith who opened the door was frightened, because the Nazis found to take in the enemy and would shoot and kill.

Elizabeth said to the German soldiers, "Merry Christmas." Then, calmly, she added: "Welcome to share Christmas dinner with us, but there are guests in the house, not your friends, I hope you can tolerate them." ”

The Germans asked warily, "Is it the Americans?" ”

Elizabeth replied, "Yes, it is Christmas Eve, and no one is allowed to use weapons, so please leave them outside the door." ”

The German soldier gritted his teeth and stared at Elizabeth, and finally put down his weapon before entering the house.

Chinese often say that when enemies meet each other, they are extremely red-eyed. The American soldiers were the same, and Ralph immediately drew his gun, and Elizabeth stopped and said, Tonight is Christmas Eve, no killing, give me the gun.

Elizabeth took the gun and arranged for both sides to sit down. The room was cramped, and the soldiers huddled nervously, not knowing what would happen next. Elizabeth was talking to them while cooking. The warmth of the fire and the warmth of the hosts let both sides relax. English, German, and French fell in love with a fragrant dinner, and Elizabeth prayed with tears in her eyes: "Thank the Lord for his grace, so that everyone can live together peacefully in war." ”
