MAN: Preston considered asking Carrick to coach, though the latter had previously said he needed a break

According to the Manchester City Evening News, Championship side Preston is considering asking Carrick, who resigned from Manchester United last week, and has firmly stated that he needs to take a break after a long career with the Red Devils.

The Manchester Evening News noted that Carrick looked unlikely to take over Preston within a week of resigning from Manchester United, even though it was a good job.

Regardless of when Carrick becomes manager, his level of work looks likely to be close to his former England team-mates Gerrard and Lampard. In three games as United's interim coach, he stabilized the squad, giving the Red Devils more tactical acumen in those three games than in the previous three months.
