Referring to Liu Yongfu, some people say that he is a hero, defending Vietnam against the French army, defending the territory of the Qing Dynasty, and defending the peace of the people of Qinzhou. Some people said that he could not defeat the Japanese army, and abandoned the people of Taiwan to return to his hometown in Qinzhou under the clutches of the Japanese Kou.
What kind of person is the real Liu Yongfu? Liu Yongfu , a native of Qinzhou , Guangdong ( present-day Xiaofeng Township , Gusendong , Fangcheng , Guangxi ) , was a general in the anti-Qing Black Flag Army in his early years. Under the suppression of Feng Zicai, Liu Yongfu fled to Vietnam in defeat. Coinciding with the French invasion of Vietnam, the Vietnamese court recruited Liu Yongfu and asked him to suppress the Vietnamese peasant revolt and resist the French invasion. In the internal and external wars, Liu Yongfu won many victories.
In 1884, when the Sino-French War broke out, Liu Yongfu and Feng Zicai, the enemies on the battlefield, joined hands to resist the enemy, and won the victories of Zhennanguan and Lintao respectively. After the war, the two families formed a family of sons and daughters.
During the Sino-Japanese War, Liu Yongfu was ordered to go to Taiwan to resist Japan, but ultimately failed. After the Qing government ceded Taiwan on May 25, 1895, Liu Yongfu also saw the true face of the imperial court - at the height of the battle, the Qing court not only refused Liu Yongfu's request for help, but also forcibly seized the funds for aiding Taiwan. Disheartened, Liu Yongfu returned to his hometown in Qinzhou and began to be exposed to revolutionary ideas, from sympathizing with the revolution to participating in it.
In July 1911, he was introduced by Wang Heshun and others to join the League led by Sun Yat-sen. On January 9, 1917, Liu Yongfu completed his glorious life and died at the age of 80.
Throughout his life, Liu Yongfu is a brave and strategic Qinzhou hero who knows how to advance and retreat. To fight bravely and strategically against the enemy and to abandon Taiwan is not to evade war, but to resist the decadent rule of the Qing government.
