What is "face"? There is no such thing as an axiomatic or universally accepted definition. There is an explanation: "Face is the social status or prestige that an individual gains from his or her achievements in society." I think there's something about it that's one-sided, narrow. The most primitive "face" should only mean that a person's "face" is a tangible existence, which can be seen and touched, and does not have so many "tall" meanings later. It is only with the continuation of history, and under the infiltration of the traditional cultural core of Confucianism "etiquette, righteousness, honesty, shame" and "sacrificing life for righteousness", people began to use "face" to explain and regulate social psychology and behavior, and its meaning was extended to a kind of tangible and invisible social psychological existence, which eventually became "face", and deduced into a spiritual height that people pursue themselves, and then were more valued and cared about by people.
This creates a culture: "face culture."
I am not an expert, nor a scholar, and I am unable to make more analysis at this level, nor can I offer any insight. Personally, I believe that "face culture" is actually an expression, laying out and publicizing people's spiritual self.
In China, the "face culture" has a long history. It is also natural for people to want face. Because "face" represents honor, decency, personality, and even dignity. It is people who want to have "face", people, all hope to have status in society, have prestige, talk and be listened to, do things are praised, people are in front of the spring breeze, people after words are victorious (this extends to a team, a collective, and even the country, the nation, are the same reason).
In fact, there is nothing wrong with this, let alone wrong. On the contrary, a person who wants "face" will also prompt him to be self-motivated, not satisfied with the status quo, strive to struggle, to forge ahead, and constantly surpass himself and move towards a higher goal. Even if we encounter hardships and hardships, we will face them head-on, resolve them, and overcome them. The first semester of the first week of the junior high school was laughed at by his classmates because of his poor grades, and he was almost demoted by the school, but he did not flinch, but angrily studied. At the age of 28, he received financial support from relatives and friends to study abroad, and students from other countries looked down on him. He did not have inferiority, but was determined to fight for the Chinese, fight for a "face", study seriously, study hard, and finally become a world-famous biologist, from the perspective of strength to win "face" for himself and for the people of the country. There are many people and things that want to "face" in this way.

This family is poor but desperate for "face", preferring to read the poetry and the bible with a hungry stomach than bow his head to others. It is said that having a backbone is not a bad thing, but dying to "face" has become a bad thing. During the summer vacation, the big families gave him a lot of money and goods, but Mr. Thought that he looked down on him, not to say that the family had everything and did not lack anything. In real life, examples of "dying for face" also abound. Man is an animal with expectations, when his current situation is far from the expected goal, or feels embarrassed and inferior to others, in order to achieve the honor of being higher than others or not lower than others, he disguises himself with an expected goal, but the result is counterproductive. This is what people often call "the dead face suffers the sin alive." There is nothing wrong with wanting "face", but if you want "face" to be too much, it will become hypocrisy and a burden. In this way, it will undoubtedly corrode people's moral soul, destroy people's moral cultivation, and more seriously, even affect the development of character and personality.
Man, it is always difficult to know yourself objectively. When you become a little official, you don't know that you were also a soldier, arrogant, and killed people in the corners of your clothes; after making some money, you forget that you are also poor, and you are full of poor people for the sake of being rich. This is not good, let alone have "face"! We should know how many pounds we have, try to know ourselves and objectively, don't look at ourselves too highly, don't always unrealistically hope for ourselves, and don't go to compare with people at every turn. People are more angry than people. Don't show your worth with a mentality that you are not inferior or superior to others. Each person has his own strengths and weaknesses. Admiring the strengths of others with their own shortcomings is often beyond their reach. Adjust your mindset to enjoy yourself and get rid of your troubles.
I'm not encouraging no ideals, no goals, no efforts, no struggles. I just want to say that people can't pretend to ask for "face". "Face" is done, and the more it is dried, the more "face" it has. "Face" can't be pretended, and the more you pretend, the more you will die! The "face" that does not have the ability to support it is ultimately no "face". People live in the world, some live into "face", some live into the inside, and only the inside, can win the real "face".
