He participated in the Autumn Harvest Uprising, also participated in the Peasants' Self-Defense Army, and also went to Jinggangshan, the holy land of revolution, as an instructor of the Party Branch of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army, and participated in the Battle of Longyangkou and the Battle of Huangyangjie. After recovering from his injuries, Chen Bojun returned to the front line as the chief of staff of the column. Later, he commanded the troops to fight many victorious battles and was deeply loved by the soldiers. In the "Left" line of the Red Army, because he supported Chairman Mao's ideas, he was dismissed from his post by the central leaders and ordered to study at the Ruijin Red Army School. It was later commissioned for reuse.
