During the opening period, Mr. Chen Yiming, the chief curator of the exhibition, and the guests and friends told about his brother's paintings and personal belongings before his death, and his words revealed his longing for his brother, and also exchanged and shared with colleagues who paid attention to Chen Yifei's exhibition works.
About the exhibition
With rich exhibits and detailed literature, this exhibition sorts out chen Yifei's artistic practice in his youth, that is, from the beginning of the 1960s to the end of the 1970s. Some of the exhibits, which have been solicited by many parties, are open to the public for the first time.
Including classroom assignments, various sketches, original manuscripts and sketches during the early years of study, it also immersively restores the creative scene and living environment of young Chen Yifei, and reviews his choices and thoughts in the rupture period of artistic development.
What is of concern is that this exhibition takes "The Man Who Throws the Javelin" as the subtitle, integrates the original paintings, documents, objects, images and new media technologies, presents the young Chen Yifei's passionate pursuit of artistic dreams in multiple dimensions and at multiple levels, shows the enterprising and wise and truth-seeking spiritual outlook of a generation of Shanghai artists in the special historical period, and inspires young people to understand the keen vision and spiritual outlook of modern Chinese artists by approaching Chen Yifei's artistic life.

The finale highlight of the exhibition is a precious video material that has been lost and recovered, Chen Yifei's fan painting process for Meng Guang's "Sketch Teaching Film" (1979).
As the afterglow of the vigorous "sketching movement" of that year, this video once became an important tool for art academies across the country to abandon the old model of drawing teaching and revive the real and rich art modeling techniques. It once nourished a generation of Chinese art students, but suddenly disappeared. Fortunately, this precious video document was finally revived after many searches and fundraising, and was presented to the audience at the same time as the original sketch "Young Woman" demonstrated by Chen Yifei.

If you want to ask what is the refinement of Chen Yifei? The answer must have its talent and causes, but it is also its wisdom and hard work. Under the illumination of the red flag, he closely followed the beat of the times, honed his skills and thoughts, and broadened his horizons; and in the strict limitations of the limitations of the times, he sought and tried all the ways to make himself loyal to the ideal, and used the artistic language higher than life to express the truth and summarize the reality, but never distorted and fabricated. He also absorbed a wealth of diverse artistic knowledge in the context of Shanghai's international culture, not only applying it to the creation of his youth, but also finding an effective connection with international culture and art for Shanghai culture and even Jiangnan culture when he lived in Europe and the United States, and became a representative figure in the development genealogy of Haipai art.

Chen Yifei
Chen Yifei (April 14, 1946 – April 10, 2005) was born in Ningbo. Famous oil painter, cultural industrialist, director. In 1965, he graduated from shanghai art college (now Shanghai University Academy of Fine Arts), entered the oil painting and sculpture studio of Shanghai Academy of Painting, and served as the head of the oil painting team. After traveling to the United States in 1980, he focused on the research and creation of oil paintings with Chinese themes. With the concept of "great art", Chen Yifei has made creative achievements in many aspects such as film, clothing, environmental design and so on, and has become a cultural celebrity.
Chen Yifei's father was a chemical engineer, and his mother, a former nun, was his artistic initiation teacher. In the same year, the family moved to Shanghai, thus laying the "Shanghai complex" that ran through his life. Yu Qiuyu once wrote: "Shanghai makes Chen Yifei have a kind of academic modesty, and it is compatible with sensitivity and freshness in modesty. ”
In the last decade of his life, he extended the art of painting to film, fashion, magazine and even design, and actively engaged in commercial operations, which is why he has attracted so much attention in recent years. Chen Yifei's efforts to improve the aesthetic taste of Chinese are obvious to all, and Chen Yifei's response to colleagues in the art world is perseverance. He thinks from the perspective of "cultural people", and while achieving commercial success, it affects the aesthetic taste of the people.
About the curators
Chen Yiming
Chen Yiming, oil painter, brother of the late famous Chinese painter Chen Yifei. From 1972 to 1979, he studied at shanghai art college and oil painting department of Shanghai Theater Academy. From 1979 to 1981, he taught at Shanghai Light Industry College. After studying in the United States, he studied at the New York Art Students Union, and then held exhibitions at the Funderler Gallery in Chicago, Florida and Paris, France. Through successful collaborations with The Wally Findlay Gallery and the Khanmer Gallery, it has gained wide recognition in the United States.
In 1990, he and his brother Chen Yifei held a brother's exhibition at HAMMER GALLERIES in New York, which became a good story in the art world and has since entered the Hammer Gallery. Through his collaborations with both galleries, he has gained widespread recognition in the United States. In addition, his works have been exhibited in other galleries in the United States, such as Lincoln Center in New York and the Center for Modern Art in England, and have been exhibited in many countries and places in Europe and Asia. The works have been collected by many museums, companies and individuals. As a Chinese painter who has been working with Hammer Gallery in the United States for 15 years, Chen Yiming's unique painting style that combines Oriental cultural heritage with Western painting techniques has long been accepted by art lovers and collectors in the East and the West. Since the early 1990s, his works have been auctioned by Christie's, Sotheby's and China Guardian, Hanhai and other auction houses. In 2011, Chen Yiming held the "Chen Yiming Art Exhibition" at the Shanghai Art Museum, which was his first large-scale retrospective exhibition after more than 30 years of art.
Chen Yiming was fortunate to have the opportunity to enter the Western art market through the gallery, which allowed his art to enter the vision of international collection earlier and also gain the influence of dissemination. In the era when China's local art market is far from being established and the channels of art exchange between China and the world are still far from being broadened, he and a group of Chinese artists have received attention and praise from the Western art market, which is not only a commercial success, but also a cultural achievement, and they have won honors for the international exchange of Chinese art, especially modern Chinese oil painting.
