Fujian has further strengthened its maritime search and rescue work

Fuzhou, 19 Nov (Xinhua) -- The Fujian Maritime Safety Bureau announced on 19 November that the Fujian Maritime Safety Bureau and the Fujian Provincial Department of Transportation jointly issued the "Work Plan on Strengthening Maritime Search and Rescue in Fujian Province" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan"), further strengthening the institutionalization of maritime search and rescue management and operation, the regularization of team equipment, the scientific decision-making and command, the internationalization of conceptual vision, and the construction of internal management windows, and strive to build a leading maritime search and rescue emergency system in China during the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" period.

The plan clarifies 8 key tasks in improving the organizational structure of maritime search and rescue, improving the construction of "one case and three systems" for search and rescue, strengthening the sharing of search and rescue information resources, strengthening the application of search and rescue technology and equipment, building a professional team of search and rescue talents, strengthening maritime search and rescue exchanges and cooperation, and popularizing maritime search and rescue culture, as well as promoting maritime search and rescue legislation, establishing water search and rescue institutions in inland river and non-water network areas, carrying out joint search and rescue across the Taiwan Strait, and building the "Fuhai Zehang" search and rescue brand.

The Taiwan Strait has always been a key point of water transportation along the southeast coast of China, Fujian coastal tourism resources are rich, and fisheries and marine aquaculture are also the traditional pillar industries of Fujian. With the vigorous development of the port and shipping economy and the coastal petrochemical industry, Fujian coastal ports and terminals are dense, the density of ship traffic is increasing, the trend of large-scale ships is obvious, the number of dangerous goods carried by ships is rising, and the risk of major water traffic safety accidents and ship pollution accidents is increasing.

According to the Fujian Maritime Safety Bureau, the Fujian Maritime Search and Rescue Center handles an average of 135 cases of maritime dangers every year, rescues 961 people in distress every year, and the success rate of human life rescue remains above 96% all year round. Since the beginning of this year, Fujian has handled a total of 107 cases of maritime dangers, successfully rescued 775 people in distress, and the success rate of human life rescue was 97.48%, up 3.46% year-on-year; 64 ships in distress were successfully rescued, and the success rate of ship rescue was 86.49%, up 3.80% year-on-year.
