On November 17, the reporter learned from the Central Plains Dahua Planning and Development Department that with the installation of the five towers of the main equipment in place, the world's first set of 1,000-ton straw sugar ethylene glycol pilot project (DLEG technology) will be completed in the company, and the main equipment of the current device has been fully installed in place, leaving only pipeline prefabrication, piping and electrical instrument installation and other sweeping work.

The project was officially launched in October 2019 and was jointly developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences relying on Zhongke Bai Yijin (Zhengzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd. and Henan Energy Research Institute, Henan Zhongyuan Dahua Group Co., Ltd., and Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. After the completion of the pilot experiment, they will jointly carry out the preparation, authorization, licensing and production and sales of the 10,000-ton biomass-to-ethylene glycol technology package and its supporting catalyst products, and then open up the industrial chain of biomass-based ethylene glycol from primary substances to polyester products.

Glycol is an important bulk chemical raw material with an annual global output of nearly 30 million tons, which is currently mainly obtained by petrochemical synthesis routes. China's ethylene glycol consumption ranks first in the world, the gap between supply and demand is huge, and it is highly dependent on imports. DLEG technology is the world's first chinese scientists, the use of renewable biomass resources (cellulose or straw sugar) as raw materials under the action of catalysts through a step directly obtained high yield of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol. The raw materials selected by this technology are extensive, cheap and renewable, the process flow is simple, low-carbon green environmental protection, and the three wastes are fewer, which is conducive to ensuring energy security, alleviating resource shortages, and reducing environmental pollution.

Biomass-based ethylene glycol products are suitable for food, clothing, cosmetics and other materials that are in close contact with people, with natural green, environmental protection and other significant advantages, the market potential is huge.
