In journey to the West, Tang Monk crossed the Five Elements Mountain and collected Sun Wukong. Pass the eagle and collect the little white dragon. Too high the old village, collect the eight precepts of the pig, cross the quicksand river, and collect the sand and purify.
Why did the Little White Dragon enter earlier than the Eight Precepts Sand Monk, but call them Master Brothers?
In the original work, Guanyin went to the Tang Dynasty, first met the sand monk at the Quicksand River, and Guanyin persuaded the sand monk to protect the Tang monk to go west, and the original work reads:
Why don't you come into my door, take refuge in the good results, make an apprentice with the person who takes the sutras, go to the western heavens, and worship the Buddha and ask for the sutras?
The sand monk agreed, expressing his willingness to be an apprentice to the Tang monk, and then:
The bodhisattva Fang was ordained with him, referring to Sha as his surname, giving him the surname Sha and giving him a Dharma name, called Sha Wujing.
The sha monk was willing to protect the tang monks from going west, so Guanyin ordained the sha monk Moding and gave him the name of dharma.
Bidding farewell to the sand monks and encountering the Eight Precepts of the Pig, Guanyin also advised the Eight Precepts to protect the Tang monks:
I received the Buddha's will and went up to the Eastern Lands to find the scriptures. You can be an apprentice with him, go to the western heavens, break your sins, and discipline you out of the miasma.
Pig Eight Precepts listened, and was also willing to protect Tang Monk, and then:
The bodhisattva was ordained with him, referring to his surname, giving him the surname pig, and giving him a Dharma name, which was called Pig Enlightenment.
The Eight Precepts of the Pig were also subjected to the Guanyin ordination and became a disciple of the Tang monks.
After dealing with the Eight Precepts, Guanyin met Xiao Bailong again, and Xiao Bailong begged Guanyin to save him, and Guanyin went to the heavenly court and begged the Jade Emperor to spare Xiao Bailong:
The poor monk received the Buddha's will, went up to the eastern land to find the scriptures, encountered the evil dragon hanging on the road, came to play, spared his life, gave the poor monks, and taught him to make a foot with the scriptures.
The Jade Emperor agreed and handed the little white dragon to Guanyin. Guanyin, on the other hand, did not ordain him for the Top, nor did he give him a Dharma name, but directly sent him to the Eagle Sorrow Stream to wait for the Tang monks.
The matter of the little white dragon was solved, and it was Sun Wukong's turn again, and Guanyin also advised Sun Wukong to enter the Buddha's gate:
Since you have this heart, when I go to the Eastern Tang Dynasty, I will find a person who has learned the scriptures and teach him to save you. You can be an apprentice with him, teach him, and enter my Buddha's door. How about the re-correction?
Sun Wukong promised to make an apprentice to Tang Monk, and then Guanyin wanted to help Sun Wukong name the Law, and Sun Wukong said that he already had a Legal name, called Sun Wukong, and then Guanyin no longer named him.
Judging from these four paragraphs, Guanyin let Sun Wukong, the Eight Precepts of pigs, and the sand monk make Tang Monk an apprentice, and let the little white dragon be a foot force. Therefore, Tang Monk had only three disciples. Later, Xiao Bailong did not have a chance to worship the master, because before he met Tang Monk, he turned into a horse. Tang Monk took in the disciples and did not count him in.
Therefore, Xiao Bailong is not a disciple of Tang Monk, he calls Tang Monk a master, and calls Sun Wukong to be a master brother, just respecting them.
