Chairman Mao's strategic practice of cross-strait reunification has given us several extremely important practical enlightenments

Due to the frenzied collusion and provocation of the Tsai Ing-wen authorities and the United States and other external interference forces, the situation in the Taiwan Strait can be described as a sword-rattling situation, with US politicians threatening and intimidating, and the "Taiwan independence" authorities arrogantly hyping up and creating a tense atmosphere in an attempt to expand the international space and gain greater capital for "resisting reunification with foreign countries and relying on the United States for independence." Chinese and the Chinese People's Liberation Army absolutely cannot agree. But how should we counter it? It is necessary for us to draw wisdom from history, and to this end, we have sorted out Chairman Mao's strategic course of liberating Taiwan and reunifying the two sides of the strait, with the aim of pooling wisdom and helping us realize the comprehensive reunification of the country.

Chairman Mao's strategic practice of cross-strait reunification has given us several extremely important practical enlightenments

On March 15, 1949, in accordance with the spirit of the Second Plenary Session of the Seventh Central Committee, Xinhua News Agency published a commentary entitled "Chinese People Must Liberate Taiwan", which for the first time clearly put forward the task of "liberating Taiwan": "The people of the Chinese (including the people of Taiwan) absolutely cannot tolerate the Kuomintang reactionaries taking Taiwan as the base of their final struggle. The task of the Chinese people's liberation struggle is to liberate all of China until the liberation of Taiwan, Hainan Island and the last inch of land belonging to China. ”

On September 30, 1949, the Declaration of the Political Consultative Conference of the people of the Chinese drafted by Chairman Mao adopted by the First Plenary Session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference pointed out that the central government "will command the People's Liberation Army to carry out the revolutionary war to the end, eliminate the remnants of the enemy army, liberate the territory of the whole country, and complete the great cause of reunifying China."

On December 31, 1949, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "Letter to Frontline Soldiers and Compatriots throughout the Country", which regarded the "liberation of Taiwan" and the total annihilation of the last remnants of the Chiang Kai-shek clique as one of the glorious combat tasks of the People's Liberation Army in 1950.

After the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, Chairman Mao pointed out in his draft instructions on the work of the East China Military Region that "Taiwan has decided not to fight in 1951 and will make a decision in 1952 according to the situation." On 29 September, Chairman Mao wrote a letter to Hu Qiaomu, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and director of the General Information Administration, saying that in the future, please note that in the future, you will only say that you will fight Taiwan and Tibet, not at any time.

In October 1953, Chairman Mao said at a meeting of the Central Military Commission: "The Korean Armistice has ended, and the burden on our shoulders has been much lighter... In the past two years, our Mr. Jiang in Taiwan took advantage of the fact that we had no time to take care of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and with the support of 'Uncle Sam,' we were very excited, and we were doing a beautiful dream of counterattacking the mainland there! Now that we can free our hands, I think it is time to concentrate on solving the Taiwan problem. ”

On September 2, 1954, Chairman Mao and Zhou Enlai sent a telegram to the Soviet leaders to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan, pointing out that the Chinese people "must liberate Taiwan in order to safeguard China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity and safeguard peace and security in the Far East and the world."

On December 2, 1954, the United States and the Chiang Kai-shek clique signed the Mutual Defense Treaty, placing Taiwan and the Penghu Archipelago under the "protective umbrella" of the United States and obstructing China's reunification. In response to the signing of the Mutual Defense Treaty between the United States and Taiwan, between January and February 1955, the People's Liberation Army launched a sea crossing campaign, liberating Yijiangshan Island and Dachen Island.

In 1959, Mao Zedong and Xu Mengshan, secretary general of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League

In January 1956, Mao Zedong said at the Supreme State Council: "As long as we are patriotic now, all people at home and abroad who can be united are united and will not blame the past." Later, he said many times: "The Kuomintang and the Communist Party have cooperated twice, and we are ready to carry out the third cooperation." ”

In 1963, Zhou Enlai summarized our party's Taiwan policy as "one program and four objectives." One principle: Taiwan must be reunified with China. "Four eyes": 1. After Taiwan reunifies the motherland, in addition to diplomatically necessary reunification with the central authorities, Taiwan's military and political power and personnel arrangements are entrusted to Chiang Kai-shek. 2. All the expenses of Taiwan's military and political and economic construction were insufficient, and all of them were allocated by the central government (at that time, Taiwan's annual deficit was about 800 million US dollars). 3. Taiwan's social reform can be slowed down, only when the conditions are ripe, and chiang's opinions are respected, and it will be carried out after consultation and decision. 4. The two sides do not send spies to each other, and do not do anything to undermine the unity of the other party. Mao Zedong has repeatedly said that as long as the Taiwan authorities hold Taiwan for one day and do not separate Taiwan from China, the mainland will not change its current Taiwan policy.

Analyzing the above three stages, Chairman Mao made comprehensive military preparations for cross-strait reunification and in the first two stages of "liberating all of China until the liberation of Taiwan." The first time it was blocked was because the Korean War broke out, the US Seventh Fleet also entered the Taiwan Strait, and the liberation of Taiwan had to be interrupted. That is to say, without the aggression of the United States on the Korean Peninsula and the entry of the US Seventh Fleet into the Taiwan Strait, China would have been reunified long ago. Comprehensive analysis, there are the following implications.

Chairman Mao's strategic practice of cross-strait reunification has given us several extremely important practical enlightenments

First, attach importance to the general mobilization of the whole country, make a declaration at the highest level of the country, and unite the strength of the whole people to liberate Taiwan. At this stage, the three important documents mentioned above, namely, "the people of the Chinese must liberate Taiwan," the "Declaration of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese People," and the "Letter to Frontline Soldiers and Compatriots throughout the Country," all explicitly mention "liberating Taiwan and liberating all of China."

Second, highlighting the resolute countermeasures, the closer Chiang Kai-shek and the United States collude, the greater their losses will be, making them more than worth their losses. After the victory of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Chairman Mao put national reunification on the agenda again, especially in order to counter the "Mutual Defense Treaty" signed by the United States and the Taiwan authorities. Resolutely countering the crossing of the line by the US and Taiwan authorities has been fully reflected. That is to say, the closer Chiang Kai-shek is linked to the United States, the greater its losses will be.

Third, taking into account the shift in the center of gravity of the national strategy, we creatively put forward a plan for peaceful reunification of the two sides of the strait. Chairman Mao not only made it clear that "the Kuomintang and the Communist Party have already cooperated twice, and we are also ready for a third cooperation." Moreover, at that time, the "one program and four items" of the Taiwan policy were put forward. One principle: Taiwan must be reunified with China. Under this premise, in fact, anything can be discussed.

Chairman Mao's strategic practice of cross-strait reunification has given us several extremely important practical enlightenments

At present, the situation in the Taiwan Strait has reached a moment of great risk; due to the more complicated situation on the island of Taiwan, the US involvement in the incident has been long-standing, and Japan is also making a fool of itself on the one hand, bringing more and more complicated variables to our cross-strait reunification. But the strategic determination of China's leaders is still reflected.

At the Sino-US summit held on 16 June, the Chinese leader's part of Taiwan was very clear, including six meanings: First, the root cause of tension in the Taiwan Strait lies in the Taiwan authorities' repeated attempts to "rely on the United States for independence," while some people in the United States intend to engage in "using Taiwan to control China"; second, the situation in the Taiwan Strait is very dangerous, and those who play with fire will set themselves on fire; third, the United States must keep its promises and not rebel; fourth, Taiwan belongs to China's legitimacy and reasonableness; fifth, the mainland has patience and sincerity to strive for peaceful reunification; and sixth, it breaks through the red line , we will have to take drastic measures.

It can be said that these six aspects have clearly defined the culprits, warned the Taiwan independence elements, condemned US interference, indicated the trend of reunification, demonstrated the sincerity of peace, and clearly defined the bottom line; they have drawn a clear red line for resolving the Taiwan issue, and issued a warning against "taking decisive measures" against the "Taiwan independence" elements and external interference forces.

What is more favorable is that compared with a few decades ago, China's comprehensive national strength and military strength have undergone earth-shaking changes, which gives us more reason to believe that under the strategic determination of the leader, the motherland must be reunified, and it will certainly be able to be reunified.
