On the eighteenth day of the first month, the Yuan army entered Gaoting Mountain (in present-day Mid-Levels, a northern suburb of Hangzhou). Empress Xie sent her chancellor Yang Yingkui to present the Yuan army with a surrender table and a jade seal. The Yuan Dynasty asked for talks with the prime minister, and Chen Yizhong was so frightened that he slipped away that night. The next morning, Empress Xie summoned a group of courtiers to discuss, and none of them answered who went to the Yuan camp to negotiate the surrender.
Wen Tianxiang came out of the class and played: "The subject will not give up in death, and he is willing to go to the enemy camp and not dishonor the king's life." Empress Xie immediately appointed Wen Tianxiang as the Right Minister and Privy Counsellor, and ordered Xia Yuqing, Wu Jian, and others to go with them. After leaving the palace, Wen Tianxiang prayed three times to the imperial city and resolutely went on the road.
The next day, Wen Tianxiang and his party arrived at the Yuan camp, Wu Jian, Xia Yuqing and others trembled, and only Wen Tianxiang was awe-struck by the righteousness, reprimanding the Yuan army for defeating the alliance and invading the Song, and affirming the determination to resist the war.
Bo Yan shouted: "The sword is waiting", and a few Yuan soldiers with swords approached, wen Tianxiang threw off the Mongolian soldiers, and said to Bo Yan: "I Wen Mou has long been preparing to repay the country with death, you want to kill and kill, listen to your honor." I am to surrender unless the sun rises in the west! So he was detained.
Empress Xie lost the courage to struggle one last time. On March 1, the Yuan army entered the city. Empress Xie and the young lord bowed to Boyan and begged for forgiveness. The end of the Southern Song Dynasty has finally arrived.
