Zhong Liansheng, a master of Chinese arts and crafts and a representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage cloisonné making skills, is currently the general manager and chief arts and crafts artist of Beijing Enamel Factory Co., Ltd., and has been deeply involved in the inheritance, preservation and development of cloisonné skills for 44 years, and has paid his youth and blood for it. Since his association with cloisonné in 1978, he has never thought of leaving the industry. Zhong Liansheng's initial contact with cloisonné stemmed from his love of painting. After the resumption of the college entrance examination in 1978, Zhong Liansheng was admitted to the Beijing Enamel Factory Technical School, and during the three years of studying at the technical school, he not only had a deeper understanding of cloisonné, but also laid a solid art foundation for his future work. After graduation, Zhong Liansheng went to work in the enamel factory, under the guidance of the first generation of cloisonné design master Qian Meihua, the teacher's words and deeds had a profound impact on him, following the teacher to learn in addition to the cloisonné skills, but also the spirit of craftsmanship of excellence and adherence to the heart.
In the early 1990s, as foreign markets tended to saturate, the traditional cloisonné craft with a history of more than 600 years was inevitably entering the cold winter period. In this case, many people chose to leave, and for a time, cloisonné seemed to be in a desperate situation that was about to be lost. As one of the first batch of talents who understand painting, design and technology through professional study, Zhong Liansheng resolutely decided to take on the heavy responsibility of cloisonné revival and innovation. Through continuous exploration and exploration, he strives to seek breakthroughs in craftsmanship, pursue innovation in design, consciously add modern design concepts and elements that conform to modern aesthetics into cloisonné, and try the inheritance and innovative development of traditional cloisonné skills.
Zhong Liansheng often goes to the cloisonné production workshop to teach skills and communicate with technicians in the production line. From the pattern image of the filigree process to the structural knowledge and constituent elements of flowers, birds and animals, and then to the basic theory and application of decorative colors in the dot blue process, Zhong Liansheng has conducted detailed training and explanation to improve the technical level and professional accomplishment of the technicians, which is also the responsibility and mission of Zhong Liansheng as the inheritor of cloisonné.
With the efforts of Zhong Liansheng and his team, the largest cloisonné mural work ever produced by Beijing Enamel Factory, "Magnificent Central Axis", will be unveiled in Beijing. In order to perfectly show the grand scene of the central axis, Zhong Liansheng led the team to spend two years, from design to craftsmanship, personally dare not have the slightest slack, just to present this unique refinement and thickness to the world.
Zhong Liansheng not only focuses on the inheritance and innovation of cloisonné skills, but also devotes himself to the development and dissemination of cloisonné crafts. In more than 40 years of cloisonné, he has always insisted on challenging the innovation of cloisonné, and his works have won dozens of national gold awards: in 2001, the "Lotus Dream" series won the gold medal of the "Second China Arts and Crafts Masterpieces and Arts and Crafts Exposition", and in 2003, the "Qing Yun" series of works won the "Fourth China Arts and Crafts Masters Exposition" Gold Award; and he was also the only cloisonné master who enjoyed the special allowance of the State Council.
