author:Traces of history

With the rise of China's film and television industry boom, since the 1990s, a large number of war dramas have continued to appear. And many divine dramas also come into view, and people feel very happy about the killing of enemies in the plot. But after watching more, I feel a little fake. However, in the history of Chinese wars, there are indeed heroes who can sing and cry, and today I will talk about Zou Xixiang, the "sniper god" of the volunteer army.

Presumably, everyone knows that Zhang Taofang, one of the ten heroes of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, in 1953, at the age of 22, successfully killed 204 enemies with 442 rounds of ammunition in the Battle of Shangganling, setting a record for the highest number of cold shots killed by the volunteer army in the Korean War, and received a reception from Chairman Mao.

There is also a volunteer sharpshooter that is often easily overlooked, he is Zou Xixiang. Born in 1922 in Liyuan Grassland, Wuchuan County, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, to a family of the Mulao ethnic group. Because this nation made a living from hunting, at the age of seven, he began to follow his father to learn basic hunting techniques such as gunpowder guns, reloading, aiming, and lurking. With the knowledge of his father and his own talent, when he was young, he often went into the mountains and forests to hunt, and in order to catch birds and animals, he often went for a few days. With his superb skills, he often shoots when aiming at prey, and every time he goes home, he returns with a full load.

In 1949, the Nationalist government was already embattled and fled to Taiwan. However, Chiang Kai-shek still commanded the Southwest Kuomintang army and some local bandits in Taiwan to fight back against the Communists. The Kuomintang reactionaries recruited a large number of troops in the southwest region, and Zou Xixiang was also arrested. Fortunately, on November 15, the People's Liberation Army liberated Dushan, where Zou Xixiang was located, and Zou Xixiang, who had long hated the oppression of the Kuomintang, immediately joined the PLA troops and became a glorious PLA soldier.

In 1950, at the request of Korea for help, Chairman Mao instructed the establishment of the Chinese Volunteer Army, led by Peng Dehuai, to assist the Korean people in resisting the aggression of the Western powers led by the United States. Since then, a large number of volunteer troops have marched into Korea.

Zou Xixiang also rushed to the Korean battlefield and was incorporated into the 135th Regiment and 1st Company of the 45th Division of the 15th Army of the Volunteer Army as a machine gun platoon leader. On the battlefield, Zou Xixiang often took the lead and rushed to the forefront of the battlefield, so he also received commendations from his superiors many times.

In October 1952, the Volunteer Army and the "United Nations Army" launched a deadly battle in Androming and the surrounding areas. In this tragic war, Zou Xixiang killed 203 enemies with 206 rounds of ammunition, almost without bullets. In November, after the Battle of Shangganling, he was also received by the Korean leader Kim Il Sung and was awarded a second-class meritorious service certificate.

In March 1956, Zou Xixiang was demobilized and returned to his hometown, buried his merits and name, and devoted himself to the construction of his hometown Wuchuan County. He threw the fine work style cultivated in the army into the construction of poverty alleviation in his hometown, and successively served as the secretary of the general party branch of the brigade, the director of the armed forces of Maoshui Town, and the director of the Mao Liu Diversified Operation Factory.

Because he had suffered many gunshot wounds and knife wounds on the battlefield, after returning to his hometown, he endured the pain brought by the war for many years, and often let the children cut and send oil for him to wipe the wounds and relieve the pain. In 2007, Zou Xixiang died of illness. A few years after his death, his family and relatives around him learned that he was a hero in the Battle of Shangganling and was received by Kim Il Sung.

Recently, I have watched on television many old heroes of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea who have hidden their names for decades, and many heroes' stories have only been known after their deaths. They do not hang their merits on their chests, they do not want to cause trouble to the organization and the country, but they will take the battlefield of the country as their duty, and they are even willing to dedicate their lives to the great motherland.
