Iron Man was co-created by several Marvel authors, including editor and screenwriter Stan Lee, editor Larry Lipper, painter Don Heck, who drew the early Iron Man story, and Jack Kirby, who designed the first Iron Man armor and drew the cover sketch for his debut. Heck designed the faces of Tony Stark and his secretary Pepper Potts. Stan Lee, who designed Stark's personality in reference to Howard Hughes, explains, "Howard Hughes is one of the most colorful figures of our time. He was an inventor, an adventurer, a billionaire, a playboy, or a lunatic. ”

Iron Man's early stories were mostly thirteen pages, but sometimes turned into eighteen pages of adventure stories, and the rest of Suspense Story was mostly short science fiction and supernatural stories. The first appearance of Iron Man in bulky gray armor, in the second story (Issue 40, April 1963) Iron Man's armor is redesigned into a similar-looking but gold-colored version, while Iron Man's now-familiar gold and red streamlined armor appears in Issue 48 (December 1963), drawn by Steve Ditko (but it is he or Jack Bryant who, alone or co-designed this version of Iron Man, remains unknown).

Beginning with the Fifty-Ninth Issue (November 1964), Iron Man and Captain America led the suspense story comics, which were rebranded into a book, two-story format. After the publication of the last issue of Suspense Story (Issue Ninety-Nine, March 1968), the comic was renamed Captain America, and Iron Man appeared for the first time in the first issue of the single comic strip Iron Man and Sub-Mariner, and then appeared for the first time in the first issue of his own comic, The Invincible Iron Man.

Iron Man was originally portrayed as a hero against communism. Technological evolution and national defense were common themes in subsequent Iron Man comics, but in later comics Stark evolved into a more complex and vulnerable character, including Stark's alcoholism and other personal problems.

Screenwriters often portray Iron Man as a symbol of human creativity and human flaws. He often became a friend of Captain America's contrast with Thor, the former highlighting the difference between interventionism and cooperative compromise, and the latter highlighting the difference between science and spirituality. For most of Iron Man's past history, he was a member of the superhero group Avengers and appeared in several comic book journals named after Iron Man.

The Tony Stark that many people see in the media is just a self-centered playboy. Tony almost always fights proudly. But even though he acted like an arrogant maniac, he always did his best to protect his teammates. Tony was also a well-known genius who built curved reactors from scratch in Afghanistan. His wisdom earned him the title of "Da Vinci of the Present". Because of his strained relationship with his father, he showed great disrespect for authority figures.

Before the kidnapping, Tony was a self-centered, arrogant person who didn't care for the feelings of others. Over the years, Tony has matured, become part of the team, and is no longer so arrogant. He even began to open up and start a real relationship with "Little Pepper" Potts. After the Battle of New York, Tony developed a strong sense of fear, in this new world with "gods" and "aliens", he could not protect the people he loved, and he gradually became paranoid and anxious.
