Preface: The first time I met director Zu Jiyan was at this year's Beijing Youth Theater Festival's 48-hour V Drama Competition. Summarize my understanding of this director in one sentence - routine is learned, drama is sincere.
The Final Family is a work by Shakespeare in the second period. In contrast to Shakespeare's early love dramas, this drama finally subverted the "Romeo and Juliet effect", from elders hindering the freedom of love, but also becoming loving and inclusive. Coupled with the adaptation of Shakespeare's work "Final Family" by director Zu Jiyan this time, the Chinese culture integrated into it is more suitable for all walks of life and families to watch the performance.
This adaptation of Shakespeare's "FinalLy Becoming a Family" belongs to the second work I have watched from my ancestors. After watching the first drama she directed, in this play, I learned the three major routines of directing!
Routine one: one person plays multiple characters.
In addition to the male and female protagonists, the other roles of this drama are played by a man and a woman, and a male actor has played "a thousand armies and horses", which shows that the director is so cute.
Routine two: "Grandfather" style humor
The director is very clever with her unique "grandfather" style humor. It seems to shake the baggage unintentionally and unconsciously, and the performance is not awkward or cold at all. For example, in the emotional drama of the male and female protagonists, the king (eating melon masses): "Wow, a long pause." Another example is that the male and female protagonists shake hands," Xi Mai. "And so on, and so on, and the actors who can't be expressed in words here. This style of humor also tests the relaxation and control of the actors.
Routine Three: Simple Background
Four scenes of the same size, two translucent cloths, two hollow doors, about once a scene per scene, there are walls and doors, clear expression, reasonable use, play with innovation, and most importantly - save money!
In addition to the several major routines I mentioned above, what really impresses the audience is the director's ability to adapt, whether in the lines of the original script or in the music processing, a large number of Chinese folk elements are integrated. The biggest response is the fusion with the elements of "Huan Zhu Ge Ge", so far, no spoilers.
It is said that the director does not like to put labels, so let's label the actors. The "Ah Shu" version of small fresh meat, a fake and serious "Mulan", the ever-changing "Three Aunts and Eight Great Aunts", and the "Old King Next Door" with a taste of the mother's cannon. Mixed fish and dragons, synthetic comedy, will live up to expectations to return.
