The world's first somatic cloned cow "Kaga" died and lived to be more than 21 years old

According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency, on the 10th, the Ishikawa Prefectural Government of Japan released a news that the world's first somatic cloned cow "Kaga" raised at the Livestock Production Test Site of the Comprehensive Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry died on the 9th due to aging, and the life expectancy was 21 years and 3 months.

Kaga is reportedly a cow, and noto, who died in May 2018, is a twin, born in July 1998, the world's first cloned cow to use adult bovine somatic cells.

Ishikawa Prefecture said that since late September 2019, "Kaga" began to have difficulty standing on its own, and after feeding it nutritional agents and taking anti-inflammatory drugs on its feet, it still did not improve, and it was unable to stand on its own since October. Around noon on October 9, Kaga's condition deteriorated suddenly, and veterinarians confirmed his death.

According to the report, "Kaga" is a somatic cloned cow, similar to the technique used by the British-born clone sheep "Dolly". As of 2006, a total of 14 somatic cloned cattle were born in Ishikawa Prefecture. In 2009, the circulation of cloned beef was restricted, so the scale of research in Japan was reduced. It is reported that the center has been raising "Kaga" to investigate the longevity of somatic cloned cattle.

It is reported that the lifespan of ordinary cattle is about 20 years.
