According to the official microblog of the "South China Sea Strategic Situational Awareness" think tank on November 3, the Japanese helicopter destroyer "Kaga" was recently found to be active in the South China Sea. On October 31, the helicopter destroyer Kaga launched a joint operation with the US aircraft carrier Carl Vincent, and on November 2, the helicopter destroyer Kaga entered the waters north of the Spratly Islands.

This is not the first time the KAGA helicopter destroyer has been found operating in the South China Sea. In September 2018, as the helicopter destroyer sailed in the South China Sea, several Chinese naval vessels approached for surveillance.

More than four years ago, Japan's Sankei Shimbun reported that the second Kaga, the second helicopter destroyer of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, was officially put into service, and the Sankei Shimbun threatened to ask China to see Japan's strength.

When the "Kaga" entered service, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that with the joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries, the situation in the South China Sea region has stabilized and improved. If some people on the Japanese side still want to stir up trouble, China and neighboring countries will not agree.

In recent years, Japan has been expanding its armaments under the pretext of China's threat, and Kishida proposed before the campaign that he plans to double Japan's defense spending to 2% or more of GDP to about $100 billion. After the Kaga was put into service, Japan already had as many as four helicopter carrier destroyers.

There are many opponents in Japan regarding the government's expansion of military spending. Not long ago, former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda commented on Kishida's defense spending plan: "If the surrounding areas are full of enemies, no amount of military spending will protect Japan." "There are also many people in Japan who oppose the government's defense expenditure plan, believing that the current Economic Development in Japan is lagging behind, and under inflation, wages have not risen, and the government should focus more funds on economic development."

On 1 November, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson made a statement on Sino-Japanese relations, pointing out that the current opportunities and challenges in Sino-Japanese relations coexist, and hoped that Japan would conscientiously draw lessons from bilateral relations, abide by the principles established in the four Sino-Japanese political documents, and promote the healthy and stable development of Sino-Japanese relations with practical actions.
