In the early 19th century and earlier, ensemble sonatas, including pianos, were often referred to as "piano sonatas with instrumental accompaniment". For example, Beethoven's first violin sonata was published as "Piano Sonata with Violin Accompaniment". While most 18th-century cello sonatas were written for continuous performance, and the left hand of the keyboard section is usually twice as large as the cello, Beethoven was credited with composing some of the first works in the genre to feature writing piano parts.

The first two cello sonatas by Beethoven were published as works. 5 Dedicated to Friedrich Wilhelm II in 1796. They are thought to have been written for the famous cellist Jean-Louis Duport. As a chronicle of the Times Report, they played it several times in court. Two sonatas, works. The intent of 5 is immortal, even though they consist of two movements (in both pieces, the opening movement presents a lengthy introduction, followed by a fast-paced movement in the form of a sonata, suggesting the existence of a third movement).

The third violin sonata, in A major, was published as a work. 69, written in 1808, generally presents a more balanced and transparent writing than the previous sonatas. "Better compositional techniques made it possible for Beethoven to confidently use fewer notes," wrote violinist Mark Kaplan. Cellist Steven Isserlis described it as the first cello sonata in history to give equal importance to two instruments.

Two sonatas, works. 102 (Nos. 4 and 5) was created between the end of 1812 and 1817. During this time, Beethoven was challenged by various difficulties and experienced a period of silence of words and metaphors. As his deafness became extremely severe, his productivity declined. Seven years after the A major sonata, the complexity of their work and their visionary character marked the beginning of the piano sonata in A major, often referred to as Beethoven's "third stage", op. 101, simultaneously written. Cellist Marianna Sinagra and pianist Lorenzo Cossi's Duo Sinossi provide interpretations of the five pieces and three sets of variations, emphasizing the richness of the counterpoint structure and the brilliance of the instrument.

The recording was made with two pairs of Sennheiser microphones.
