Doha, 7 Sep (Xinhua) -- Qatari Emir (Head of State) Tamim met with VISITing US Secretary of State Blinken and Defense Secretary Austin in Doha, Qatar, on 6 September.

According to the information posted by the emir's office on its website, the two sides discussed the regional and international situation and bilateral relations during the meeting. Tamim received a letter from U.S. President Joe Biden during the meeting. Biden thanked Qatar for its assistance in the U.S. withdrawal in Afghanistan and for its efforts to host negotiations between the United States and the Taliban.

In a social media post before leaving the United States, Blinken said he would visit Qatar and Germany. Austin will visit Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait after concluding his visit to Qatar.

In addition, according to the website of the Emir Office of Qatar, Tamim also met with the visiting Saudi Interior Minister Abdul-Aziz bin Saud on the 6th, and the two sides discussed bilateral relations, the international and regional situation, counter-terrorism and security cooperation.

At 23:59 local time on August 30, the last US military transport plane took off from Kabul International Airport, marking the end of the MILITARY operation launched by the US military in Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. The Taliban then deployed special forces at the airport, taking over the airport completely.
