Zhong and Tan co-edited the "Poetry Return" and promoted their literary views in the preface and commentary, and under their influence, the Lingling school of poetry became popular in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Zhong and Tan's comments in these two books were regarded by the people of the time as a poetic standard. The Jingling sect is also known as the Zhong Tan sect, and the main characters Zhong Yi and Tan Yuanchun are all from Jingling (present-day Tianmen, Hubei), so they are called the Jingling sect, and nearly a thousand literati joined in the late Ming Dynasty. At this time, Zhong Yu was dissatisfied with the style of the new school of poetry that was prevalent at that time, which emphasized "sexual spirit" and light poetry, so Zhong and Tan decided to choose models from Tang poetry and ancient poetry for study, study and imitation. In 1614 and 1615, the two exchanged ideas with each other, and jointly agreed to select the "Ancient Poetry Gui" and "Tang Shi Gui" (see Zhong Yi Biography), collectively known as "Shi Gui", which was engraved in 1617, hoping to correct the bad tendencies in poetics at that time.
