Endemic to Taiwan. Sexual noise, loud and noisy calls. When flying, it always advances in a straight line, which is very elegant and noble. They move in pairs or in family groups; gliding among the trees, their wings flattened, revealing striking black-and-white patterns. It is often caught as an ornamental bird.

The brown-headed anchovy, also known as the crown-feathered thrush and the crested-feathered anchovy, is a small bird found only in the mountainous regions of Taiwan. Their breeding season is from March to September, and the female lays about 4 to 8 eggs per clutch. Brown-headed hydrangeas build their nests on twigs, and spider webs, ferns, mosses, grass roots, etc. are the main materials for their nesting.

Listed on the IUCN Red List: Non-Threatened Species (LC), 2012 assessment.
