Dialogue with Shen Xue, President of the Chinese Figure Skating Association
On November 6, the 2020 Shiseido China Cup World Figure Skating Grand Prix was held in Chongqing, and Shen Xue, as the president of the first China Figure Skating Association, came to Shancheng again.
Q: You have many titles – deputy secretary of the Beijing Youth League Municipal Committee and the first chairman of the Chinese Figure Skating Association. Each title feels like there's a lot of work to be done, are you busy?
Shen Xue: At first, I was a little uncomfortable. When I'm busiest, I get my meetings wrong. Because after all, the association has just been established, a lot of it is new to me, it is also new to the industry as a whole, and there is not a lot of reference opinion on the things it deals with. So during this time period, I also consulted a lot of senior teachers, and they gave a lot of guidance.
Shen Xue said that the original intention of the establishment of the Chinese Figure Skating Association was to prepare for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and the primary task of the association is to serve the national team and graft the world's top resources for athletes and coaches.
Q: In the field of figure skating, the resources enjoyed by our players are not only the coaches of our country, but the best team in the world?
Shen Xue: Yes, because the whole figure skating program is arranged, and in order to be recognized by the judges in the world, you must first have resonance. So, for so many years we've been using foreign choreographers and then adding Chinese elements. At the same time, he also invited some big-name directors in China, such as director Zhang Yimou, who will also tell the plot to athletes when approaching the big competition.
We're making a lot of progress on ice now, and I've put in touch with one of the best teams in the world, and more than half of all ice dancers in the world are training on this team, including world champions and Olympic champions.
In recent years, in terms of athlete training, we have carried out cross-discipline selection. Working with the Beijing Dance Academy to do this project, the ice technology is responsible for the coach of the association; the dance and cultural classes are responsible for the school, which is a diversified cooperation.
Q: In the past, figure skating was the exclusive property of northern cities, but now there are more and more indoor ice and snow venues in southern cities, do you think there is potential for ice sports in the south?
Shen Xue: Thanks to our successful bid for the 2022 Olympic Games, more cities, more people to learn about winter sports, and more ice rinks to carry out in the south.
