A self-description of "A Tale of a Small Town" – a summary of photography in 2020

author:m filming community

Hello everyone, my name is "The Story of a Small Town", and the reason why my author "Shanghai Old Oubu" called me so is because of an inspiration 6 years ago, because the old Oubu's grandmother's community is about to be demolished, so he filmed on the rubble ruins around this neighborhood that have been left by demolition. When he went back to sort out the film, the PC side happened to play Teresa Teresa's "Story of a Small Town" (here to reiterate, old Aubu is not a Teresa Teresa fan haha), so I was born.

For my writer, Obu Sr., photography is like a cup of coffee, and in my spare time, I always have to savor the richness of it. And the most comfortable time is to take the camera to sweep the streets and climb the stairs in the afternoon. It's been 9 years since he owned his first Canon 60D and started pressing the shutter.

This is the first time in my life that I have dictated a year-end photographic summary in words. For me, who is used to expressing myself in pictures, I am not very good at expressing it in words. I hope that if there is a bad description, I hope you will forgive me.

2020 is destined to be a rough year, because of the epidemic relationship, my author Old Oubu's range of activities is also limited to the magic capital, many high-rise machines that can capture the beautiful scenery can not be accessed because of strict control (voiceover: basically he has been to the camera), for a former climbing stairs to sweep the street as a supplement, the old Oubu decisively transformed into a street sweeping party. In fact, there are also colleagues around him who suggested that he go into the field of aerial photography, perhaps accustomed to the traditional way of shooting, he did not adopt. Gradually, he found that sweeping the street expanded his vision by pressing the shutter more abundantly.

About me, this year, in addition to continuing the previous "Crossroads", "Magic Capital, Behind the Prosperity", "About SH", "Magic Capital, Trolleybus Overhead Line", "Magic Capital, Little Braid", etc., Old Oubu also added some new elements to me. For example, "TIME FOR LIGHT" is about the description of light and shadow, "There is light rain in the clouds" is about the description of sweeping the streets on a rainy day, and "ALL KINDS OF" is a description of the various states of street people and still life.

Regarding the framing and equipment, the old Ob told me that there is no advantage or disadvantage in terms of fixed focus lens and zoom lens, the key depends on your shooting habits and shooting subject, and even portability. For example, "There is light rain in the clouds", because it is a rainy day sweeping the street, the camera should be easy to carry, because one hand should hold the umbrella, so it is generally equipped with a fixed-focus segment lens. For example, "Magic Capital, Little Braids", because it is shooting trolleybus themes, more scenes will use telephoto, so it will bring a telephoto zoom lens mounted on the fuselage.

In terms of film shooting, I have been insisting on producing at least 2-3 episodes of film for the past two years. Feelings are the original intention of film shooting, the old Oubu also told me a little-known story, my grandmother gave him a Ricoh FF90 film machine that he and his grandfather had treasured for many years, and on a sunny day, he took this machine to sweep the streets, and then when the first volume was swept out, he seemed to return to the era of looking at the photo albums of his elders. Compared with today's fast-food digital age, the most important thing about film shooting is to be quiet, first of all, you have to accept his old manual or autofocus methods (such as split screens, maculas), and secondly, the shooting parameters should be clear according to the weather. Moreover, for the subject, especially the capture of street photography, the shutter must not be pressed easily. Back to the previous equipment problem, when familiar with the working method of the film machine, look back and pick up the digital, you will find that in fact, the focus speed is not one of the criteria to test whether you can successfully produce the film, let alone one of the test criteria for you to choose the camera.

Regarding some of the harvest of shooting, I think it is also important to use your ears to listen in addition to shooting with both hands and with both eyes. When you press the shutter, you tend to ignore the things that suddenly come into view that are superfluous to you, so at this time, people's speech, the smell of the wind, and the motor sound of the vehicle will also be very important for you to complete the shooting. Let's say you're shooting a scene when you suddenly get into a car and disrupt your rhythm, but thankfully you don't press the shutter. So the next time you press the shutter, you can predict it by listening to the sound and then quickly press the shutter.

Looking forward to 2021, I will continue to tell the old series of stories, and I will also plan to launch new series, such as "Facade", "Workers' New Village", "Magic Bus", "Little Bridge Flowing Water" and other stories that tell the hometown where old Ob grew up. Finally, thank you Mipai and thank you for your love for me.
