Founded in July 1962 on Merritt Island on the east coast of Florida in the eastern United States, the Kennedy Space Center is NASA's most important site for testing, preparing, and conducting launches of manned and unmanned spacecraft, in honor of the late U.S. President John F. The entire site is 55 km long, 10 km wide and covers an area of 567 square kilometers. There is also a visitor center on the grounds. Kennedy Space Center is an important tourist attraction in Florida. It is also a U.S. National Wildlife Refuge because most of the Kennedy Space Center is closed. The launch headquarters is currently located at Launch Pad 39, which is also home to the spacecraft assembly building. There are two launch sites 6 km to its west and 8 km south is the industrial area of the Kennedy Space Center, where there are many support facilities and management headquarters. Launch Center 39 is the only launch command post at Kennedy Space Center. All other launches were directed by the U.S. Air Force's Cape Canaveral Air Force Base. The picture shows the close-range view of the No. 39 launch center.
The Kennedy Space Center consists of four parts, the Industrial Zone, Launch Center 39 and its two launch sites, LC-39A and LC-39B, the aircraft assembly building, and the Visitor Center. In addition to the support facilities and management headquarters, there is also space station manufacturing equipment for the International Space Station in the industrial zone.
