Suzhou Xihuaqiao Lane exits Lindun Road in the east and Pishi Street in the west. It is 358 meters long and 1.96 meters wide.

I usually walk through xihuaqiao lanes, or from Linton Road or from Pishi Street. There was no special feeling, and I thought about writing about this alley, so I carefully examined it.

First look at the historical relics and then look at the value of cultural preservation.

Pan Zunqi (1808-1892) Was a Qing Dynasty calligrapher and painter. A native of Wu County (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu). Daoguang twenty-five years (1845) into the soldier, twenty-seven years (1847) Hanlin, light Yu Shijin, in the twenty-seventh year of Daoguang resigned from the official return to his hometown, mainly engaged in local public welfare undertakings and family affairs. Paint flowers. He is the author of "The West Garden Collection".

During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, this house was used as the official office of Xiong Wanquan, and later returned to Pan Jiru of Anhui Daotai, in the 9th year of the Republic of China (1920), under the surname of Wu. After liberation, it was used by the Wu County People's Armed Forces Department (the gate faces north, on Baita West Road), and after 1983, it was used by Suzhou Tobacco Company.

Pan Zunqi's former residence now has a remnant of a gatehouse, sitting north to south all the way three times. Fortunately, the preservation is still good, and the relevant units are being repaired and protected.

Pan Zunqi's former residence

Huaixin Yizhuang was built in the twelfth year of Qing Tongzhi (1873) by the descendants of the Taiyuan Wang clan. A family ancestral hall was set up in the village. Huaixin Yizhuang lasted for more than half a century, until the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan.

Huaixin Yizhuang, sitting north and facing south, covers an area of about 4,000 square meters, divided into five entrances, running through No. 39 and 43 Baita West Road, and the range of the former Xihua Primary School on the west side.

Among them, the first road of No. 25 Xihuaqiao Lane is still well preserved. There is a flower hall with an incense gallery in front of it, and a crane neck xuan inside. The north hall is in the style of a ship hall, with six floor-to-ceiling windows remaining. To the north of the ship hall, there is also a flower hall. Although it is now a resident's home, it has not lost its restoration value.

Huaixin Yizhuang

These two historical relics of Xihuaqiao Lane are listed in the Suzhou Municipal Control and Protection Buildings, and both have the value of repair, which is gratifying.

When I put my finger on the keyboard, ready to choose an angle to tell the alley, my finger did not type a word for a long time.

I want to revisit Xihuaqiao Lane, as if only in Xihuaqiao Lane can I complete this little article.

In the afternoon, Xihuaqiao Lane is a bit lazy, relatively speaking, it is quieter than Shijia Lane and Donghuaqiao Lane. At the door of a courier station, the ground is full of express delivery pieces, a day in the world; the white-haired old man in the courtyard of the community health center is walking around, and the Wu language is thick.

I repeatedly walked in the alley several times, looked at the ordinary to the extremely ordinary gates of the people in the alley, and thought of the historical figures who had lived in the alley.

Ye Changchi, a famous scholar in modern times

Ye Changchi, a talented son of the Suzhou generation who learned to be rich and wealthy. His "people and things are all insightful", "the scholar knows that among the elders of Sioux City, tongya is incomparable"

Ye Changzhi studied under Feng Guifen, and Feng Guifen served as the general editor of the Suzhou Fuzhi, and Ye Changzhi divided the relevant parts.

The "Secretaries of the Collection of the Shuxi Zhaizang" compiled by Ye Changchi is Pan Zuyin's account of the origin of the Shuxi Zhai collection, the origin of the purchase of the book, and the proofreading, examination, and edition identification. The collection of books has become the first batch of national treasures in Shanghai Library, and the quantity and quality of the book have attracted the attention of the world.

No. 7 in the lane was once Ye Changzi's library, named "Gong Du Di". I heard that there is still an old wall behind the four-story building No. 7, which is inlaid with two carved stone pillars. I couldn't bear to explore, I didn't go in.

The husband of Shen Shou, a Chinese embroiderer, the couple has made outstanding contributions to the development of Su embroidery. There are stone-printed hand-written posters "Three In the Residence Of The Ancients" (Yan Zhengkai, Mi Xingshu, Su Xingkai) published, and there are autobiographical works "History of Pain" passed down.

Mr. I.M. Pei

<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="3" > Mr. Pei</h1>

I.M. Pei is a world architect known at home and abroad. Xihuaqiao Lane was his grandfather's residence. He spent several summer vacations here as a teenager. When Pei returned to his hometown in his eighties, he went to Xihuaqiao Lane to look for old houses and look for the imprints of his youth.

The masters and ancestors have lived in the alleys like ordinary people living in the alleys today, although the smoke clouds of the past have erased the traces of their lives, but it is these outstanding masters and ancestors who have forged the context in our Suzhou Quemo Alley, and then converged into the great context of Suzhou. Then, any photo taken in Suzhou has a rich literati background. This is also the cultural heritage of the development of today's Greater Suzhou.
