Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng served as Director General of the Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

According to the information in the "Organizational Structure" column of the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wu Peng has been appointed director of the Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Born in February 1967, Wu Peng previously served as China's ambassador to Kenya.

According to public information, Wu Peng, born in February 1967, has a master's degree in business administration. In 1990, Wu Peng joined the Beijing Diplomatic Service Bureau, and since 1993, he has successively served as a clerk, attaché, third secretary and second secretary of the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2001, Wu Peng began to work abroad, successively serving as the second secretary and first secretary of the Embassy in the United Kingdom, and the counselor of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, until he stepped down and returned to China in 2010. After returning to China, Wu Peng successively served as counselor and deputy director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 2014, he was appointed vice mayor of Sanya City, Hainan Province.

In 2016, Wu Peng went overseas again as Ambassador to Sierra Leone until March 2019, when he was appointed Ambassador to Kenya, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme.
